Do you think its possible to live off $800 a month?

Additional Details
people that live on $0 a month are homeless.

depends on where you are. when i lived in houston, about the only place you could rent for less than 500 were these one room, share the bathroom and kitchen kind of places, but here in virginia, i had a three room apartment for 300 a month. in the rural parts of the country, yes. in the cities, i doubt youd eat much.

peilthetraveler
Yes...because you make so little you qualify for Electrical assistance, food stamps, Section 8 housing, and you can probably get medicaid on top of that. In fact you will probably be living better than 75% of us. :)

As a responsible person no. As one of those that live off the system, ie welfare foodstamps using their children as government money handout yes. It is a shame that those of us who got an education and work hard for a living have to continually pay for those that have not educated themselves, or actually work full time for a living but instead have a bunch of children they cannot afford but want us to pay for, then flaunt it in our face. It is time to change this whole welfare program, and income tax program that rewards those that contribute nothing to society, was supposed to be a helping hand not a life style. If you do not work and do not pay you should receive nothing back, especially the extras. We all are in control of our destiny, by what we do why should those that are lazy, and do nothing for themselves reap any benefits? They should work for them

It depends on what bills you have... Not a good amount to live on!

if you live with your parents.

where do you live or want to live? I'll buy a house and rent it to you as long as you give me money on time. Meaning, I get your money first, then give you the rest.

What do you think?

♥♥The Queen Has Spoken♥♥
Depends on where you live.

Fran
yes, but it will be very tough :[

no. because the rent for an apartment is 1000+ (a month)
and all the other stuff adds on (like food, etc..)
so deffinitely no.
unless u do live with your parents

Freethinker
It depends on the circumstances...if you live alone or live with someone, the area you live in (as prices for housing, utilities, and food will vary), and how much debt you have.

For someone living alone in a cheap apartment in the midwest, it would be possible to live on $800 a month. You probably wouldn't have money for any luxury items, like cable TV or internet access, but you'd have enough for rent, basic utilities, and food. If you got government assistance, it would make a difference as well.

For me, it's very hard! That's all I make a month for now, until I find a full-time job again, and I can't barely eat!! It sucks! If you live with people, then it might be ok, if they don't ask for rent, etc.

Kengem
Yes, it's POSSIBLE, if you can arrange your life accordingly such as: rent no more than $400 / month; food nomore than $150 / month (no eating out!); etc. It could reasonably be done if you could control all aspects of your life and have few aspirations.

My family does, so yes it is possible. We are alright as long as we don't buy into all the high tech crap.
We have four little girls, myself and my husband in the house.

P.S

If you have children and get the EIC, you will get about 4800 refund for federal no matter what. Add this to the amount you paid in, because obviously at that amount of money each month, you have no tax liability...this is your federal tax refund.
Your state gives an EIC of about 4% of your federal EIC which comes to 1900 plus anything you paid into state.

Add this up and you have a refund of $6,700.00. Now, divide that by 12...an extra $558.00/month

So, you would actually be bringing in $1,358.00 per month and that's not too bad, huh?

If you don't have kids and get the EIC, well....You can still do it because you don't have the kids to pay for.

Good luck!

I am really not trying to be rude but, there's a lot of people that live on $0 a month, so I would definetly be happy with what I have.
