Do you think the mold in my apartment bathroom is causing me to be sick?
In my apartment bathroom, water leaks from the ceiling right above the toilet. & I see mold growing more & more, day by day. I told the maintenance man on Friday, & he was supposed to investigate the leak from the apartment above me. I know this isn't my fault, but I'm scared because the lease says something about that we can get evicted if mold grows.

Now, I'm experiencing stuffy & runny nose & huge, bloody boogers that block my nasal passages where I can't breathe. Many people say you can die from inhaling mold. Like it can grow in your nose. Sometimes I forget that the mold is there & I don't realize I'm inhaling it.

I remember 4 months after Hurricane Katrina, we returned back home to New Orleans & went back in our apartments to get our valuables that weren't destroyed, & we had to wear face masks. & I heard a few people died from the mold growing in their noses.

Yes, if it's black mold or also known as Toxic mold you can die from it. Take photographs of the mold, you cannot be held responsible for the mold on the ceiling caused by a leak from upstairs. Your landlord is referring to not cleaning your tub and tile and allowing mold to form from being unclean not from a leak.

Call in the health inspectors and report the issue, explain that the landlord has failed to take care of the issue. However, you'll need to write to the management company and tell them to get this repaired that the mold is causing health issues. Send certified so you get a receipt back so you know when they got the letter, be sure to give them a time frame to repair. If after that time they have still failed to comply then call in the health inspectors to visit and to determin if the landlord should be cited for failure to repair.

Yes. Get the **** out of there, sue the landlord for damages, and find a new apartment.

Mold doesn't grow in your nose, it just dies. Some molds (most) release toxins which will make you sick, and one species, toxic black mold, is actually deadly and if they find it, the entire complex will be declared a biohazard and condemned. GET OUT OF THAT APARTMENT.

Yes, you can get sick from the mold. Mold can make many people sick. I am allergic to mold and cannot be around it.

My sister bought a house and there was mold behind a shower wall downstairs = the tiles were not tight and my BIL was going to tear it down and redo it as soon as he had time. They didn't know there was mold but just knew the tiles were not put in correctly. Anyway, my sister ended up quitting a very good job because she was having migraines constantly - she felt bad she couldn't do her share and ended up quitting. Her young son ended up with asthma, which he didn't have before they moved in. The funny thing was her husband really didn't have any problems.

Anyway, sorry for the long story but yes, yes and yes that mold can make you sick. Clean it with bleach until they get it fixed. Bleach will kill it.

Good luck.

if the mold is not being caused by you i can't see how they can evict you. on the other hand, i can see you going to the tenancy board and getting the apt owner in trouble for not fixing the leak, and causing a health issue

yes mold can make u sick. very sick

i have a mold killing formula for you:

mix 2 parts bleach (javex) and 1 part water, and use gloves and a sponge, and was down the walls, ceiling. it will kill the mold. but as long as the ceiling leaks, you will have to keep repeating this as you see mold return.

and the that maintance man in a nice way to get off his butt and do something!

(don't belive about mold "growing" in noses) that sounds like a wives tale. to make a really bad experience even worse

I had almost the same thing when i moved over here. The mold on the ceiling was causing me to have breathing problems similar to asthma attacks. Hit it with some bleach and wear a face mast when you scrub it off.

FIRST THING !! DO YOU HAVE AN INSURANCE POLICY?---THEN CALL now!!!--if you don't then you need to do this fast.Write down that you have complained about the ceiling leaking i imagine verbally. But now you need to put it in writing and send it certified mail to the owner. You are not at fault they cant evict you.--now this is what you also need to do.--that ceiling needs to be removed at least 2 feet from the last visible sign of mold.and its possible that the wall ajacent may be wet so it may be contaminated too.--take pictures!!You need to put that in writing to them.If they dont u have a case. Then what you do is demand a copy of the buildings insurance policy in writing and in that letter you tell them to file a claim and they need to come out and correct/fix.---then you also need to call a company like servicemaster and they will come out and document hopefully free of charge.--if you feel they are acting slowly.Call your states dept of insurance and or housing(both is better) and file a complaint with them. ---now if they act slowly then you tell servicemaster to fix the problem out of your pocket after 30 days from the time you sent that letter. Then you withold the next month or months rent and show the receipts..If they try to evict then go to court and show your proof.!) you complained--they did nothing 2) you sent them notice certified mail--they did nothing 3) you asked that they send the adjuster for the ins and they did not 4) you waited 30 days which you feel was adequate since you were afraid of not only the mold, but this is important(that the ceiling may fall and injure you.--lets see them take you to the eviction court with that.--lmao--judge will crucify the owner for failing to comply.

It's possible. I suggest if they don't clean it up soon, that you file a complaint with the city housing authority or health department.

Eeek. I have mould growing on the wall right next to my head over my bed. And, yes, I get sick in my room too. But I get headaches and nausea instead, not a blocked nose.
