Does any know how much the down payment is to renting an appartment?

Ted Pack
The standard here in California is first month's rent, last month's rent and cleaning deposit equal to a month's rent. So, if the apartment rents for $600 a month, you'll need $1,800 to move in. If it rents for $1,000 a month, you'll need $3,000.

On the good side, when you decide to move out you have already paid the last month's rent, so that month is free, and if you leave it clean you get another month's worth of rent back.

You might ask what percent of the renters get their cleaning deposit back when you shop for apartments. Some landlords just hire cleaning crews automatically, and you lose it automatically. Some work with you; tell you to vacuum again and hit the oven harder and the money is yours.
=============================
Later - Down Payment is the deposit when you buy something on time. You are not buying the apartment. I hope you mean what sort of deposit do you need to rent an apartment; that is the question I answered. If not, post again with an accurate wording.

Ours was first months rent plus a security depost that was half the rent.

Usually a month's rent. Or two - first and last month's rent.

I don't think there is a base number. It really depends on the landlord. It can go anywhere from 150-1500 bucks. Depending on the size and if he gets any better offers.

angel
usually the down payment is one month's rent and a security deposit which is usually equal to a month's rent

depends on the place most places are first and last months rent!
some are only 500 bucks

Ophelia
First months rent, last months rent, and a security deposit. after that, its the monthly charge every month.

drunken monkey
Depending on the apartment, If there are any specials running they maybe able to prorate the down or which they call security deposit, credit check fee, and move in fee. If you move into a new appartment usually they won't charge as much.

depends usually first months rent

it depends how much the apartment is for rent. you can pay first month's rent, last month's and deposit(the same as a month's rent, generally). sometimes it's first month's and damage deposit.

first of al what kind of landlord are you running into here a what downe payment?/ they must have seen you coming hons, they can ask for only the first months rents, a key deopist,, and security-- lets say tey want 500, on a months security deopisitt, and the first last months rents-- thats another, 1,000 okay thats, 1,500 a downe payment no way or are they saving this place for you or what?? find another landlord downe payment no way!!

willsgurl
the down payment in most places is the same as your rent unless they have a apecial going on which at this time of the year it is very likely..so say your rent woudl be 700 then your down payment is 700 + 700 rent...and it really depends on the day you move in also like the middle of the month you would be prorated..which means cut in half...GOOD LUCK

crystald
I was an assiatant manager at an apartment complex and you have to pay the application fee the deposit and your prorated rent, meaning the remainder of the month that you are moving in.)

Good Luck!

I worked at an apartment complex before. Here is the scoop on how it worked for the apartments I was at.

They are going to check for 3 things-job stablity, credit, and rental history.

If those 3 things are good you could pay nothing. If bad you could pay up to 3 months of rent.

So atleast where I was at it was 0-3 months rent.
