Does anyone know what the steps are to become a real estate agent?

Interview several real estate brokers in the area. Larger named ones. Don't go for only locally know brokers because they will, most likely, not have any training program for you.

See which ones would have the right programs. One even has you as an "employee" giving you a salary plus commission, but the catch is you have to do what they want when they want.

Some brokerages are more expert oriented. Some charge office fees others don't.

This is why I stated that you need to interview them, even though they may be interviewing you.

After you find the right brokerage, then they will point you to a local school in getting a license, they may even pay for it if you sign on for a certain amount of time. That's how I got my license.

Best of luck!

Attend real estate school and get your license.

Find a local real-estate class at a community college and go from there. Different states/regions have different regulations

I am a Realtor practicing in Pennsylvania while it is true that most states have different requirements to become a Realtor they are all fairly similar. The steps I took are as follows
1. Find and attend an accredited school and figure out what courses are required for you to pass in order to be able to take the state and national exams.
2. Once you are eligible for the exams you can schedule them. Once you pass them you can start looking for a job at any real estate office. Once your Broker accepts you he/she will send for your license.
One more thing Don't believe the hype now is the perfect time to get into real estate while the market is slow. That way when it is booming again you will have enough experience to make the big bucks. Here is some advice that I wish I would have had 1. Save your money it usually takes a new agent up to three months to see there first check. 2. since you would be a new agent pick an office with a lot of floor time and no monthly desk fees. At my office I share half the commission with my broker but I don't have to pay any monthly fees. My friend works at Re/max and pays about 850 a month to have her desk there but she gets to keep all of her commission. That would be better for someone who is experienced not someone who is starting out. Another thing it is not as easy as the tv makes it seem be prepared for a lot of hard work, I started in school in January and right now I have been practicing for about a month and I love it. One last piece of advice if you love what you do you wont have to work a day in your life.

go to a real estate school. if you're thinking of doing it now, this is not a good time. and if you ever get your license in the future, don't quit your day job unless you have 6 months money reserved to cover your expenses (or maybe longer).

pretty siple but lots of studying. It only took me about 4 weekends in a row. I love it you shopuld also have at least a year of income set aside because you only get paid when you sell something

Although housing has been bad and many new licensees and even older ones that bailed out of this business, this is the clue.

You have to enroll on some community college as if you are going to take another 4 year course and enroll on a Real Estate Principles. From there, you will take off like an airplane. You will have a chance to ask the lecturer and for sure he or she will tell you the next step after passing that subject.

Just get one of those bus benches with your picture on it.

you are wanting to walk into an industry that is crashing. I work in the auto industry, we already crashed. so I will tell you first hand, don't come in. its ugly, no work nor money around.
