If you hear light switches being flipped I say the problem is you are far too sensitive.

No I live on 10 acres of land in a beautiful house with no neighbours and I love the privacy I have.

Dave you dont allow emails so cant reply to yours. But would invite you anytime. I feel sorry for your situation.

I am not bragging my husband and I worked night and day and still do we dont drink smoke or go on holiday you reap what you sow.

RMC never judge a book by the cover you can choose how your life turns out if your prepared to put the effort in. I was brought up in a back street two up two down and so was my husband and we worked hard to get where we are and still do.

All that was actually meant for wolf1283

Yes exactly the same as you , but I live in a semi ,the walls are so thin, I can even hear them going to the toilet.

hope my little one comes *2009*
Why don't you knock on there door and asked if they can keep the noise down after a certain time!

I do - sometimes seems to be worse than others. I can hear the TV right now, and often hear him walking around. Not as bad as light switches though!

When it is real quiet at night, I can often hear the neighbours have a wee or coughing, so I dread to think what we can all hear of everyone's bedroom behaviours ;-)

I tend to listen to my iPod until I drift off to sleep!

I used to and it drove me mad. Complaining doesn't work. I totally sympathize mate. White noise can drown it out like a fan. I think wearing earplugs is dodgy if you live on your own, I like to hear just in case someone broke it or something.

I had to move basically and I am so much happier and chilled.

Playing death metal used to shut them up for a while :)

OMG SHY me too :)

The one disadvantage about council flats is however quiet it is inside, there's going to be a racket going on outside it. There are 4 flats on my floor, & they all come & go, shouting & banging their doors at 3am. Glad I'm not alone though.

I'm on the ground floor too with just one floor above. I put up with the kids running about during the day but it's when the adults come in at about 2am and put the music on, shout, laugh and talk until 5.30 then go to bed. And don't lie still. But it only happens about twice a week so I don't suppose there's much I can do even though our council states "noise must be kept to a minimum and no noise is allowed to be heard from any property between 11.00pm and 7.00am the following day".

We lived in a house a few years ago (in the uk) and our neighbours were noisy f******!! I mean fighting, music, shouting..the lot.
We lived there for 2 miserable years. Problem was we didn't want to report it to the police because we wanted to sell it as soon as we finished renovating it and you have to tell the purchasers of any neighbour disputes, so we found ourselves in a tricky situation with our hands tied. We did sell it after 5 months of being on the market. the young woman asked me 'How are your neighbours?' ...'Really nice and friendly' i replied........what else were we supposed to say? i wanted to move! (but i feel as guilty as hell)

Ryan
I can sympathize with you on this one. After my recent experience with renting a flat i've sworn never to do it again! Lousy wooden floorboards, stomping noisy neighbours above, loud music at 4am. Give me a house anyday.

yeah I do, I've had words with him (polite ones) and things have quietened down sadly it will never be completely gone as its one the perils of living in a flat.

Try maybe attaching heavy blankets or rugs to the ceiling as a crude form of sound insulation?

Eddy T
Try to be friendly with those people above and use your interpersonal skills to ask their help to reduce those noises. Good luck.

i do, its hellish.. i sleep with ear plugs at night, thats all i can really do. weve got sound proof and weve left the old carets under the new to try and stop the noise but its not helped.

if they get excessivly loud then you can contact your ouncil to complain and theyll, talk to them hopefully.

things in my house actually move from them banging and their music vibrating the place. i live on the top floor and i can hear everything from 2 floors down too. and the people across from me.

also, if you live in flats more than 3 floors its illegal to not have floors that are concrete so you could actually go to your council and discuss this, if they ignore you say they either move you or youll report them. concrete floors would stop noise more :D

oh yeah, loud rock music will quieten them down if they do stuff on purpose

Adam
buy an ipod and listen to it 24/7 or a cheaper option would be to wear ear plugs

shyforsure
I lived in a house like this once. I don't think the people were being deliberately noisy, the walls were just so thin. I heard other things as well if you get my meaning and thats embarrassing! I ended up moving because it got to me, sounds silly but it does. If you live alone like me without kids you hear stuff more. I now live in a detached house thats rented and it's fantastic!

Betty
well i'm not in england so i call it an apt but i'm in the upstairs "flat" and it's not as noisy as when i was down below in the same apt in a studio which was horrendously noisy! it depends on how your apt is insulated for sound - the older the bldg probably the worse the noise.

oh and la di da to "daisy duke".... not all of us can afford such luxury and brag about it!

I'm single mum with 10 months old baby girl. I have a flat above me and they are really heavy on their feet also there little girl is running around from stupid o'clock in the morning until very late at night. The effects of this are causing me so much stress I get really teary and it also wakes me and ky daughter. I have asked them to be aware of the noise as its keeping my baby awake but its seems no efforts have been made. It may just be me but it seems to be even louder I actually cannot bare it anymore. But I just don't know how to take actions that will give me a good solution. Please help me...
