Ebay........?
you dont make any money on ebay. u pay ebay to sell even if u dont sell. your better off selling on Craigslist for free. there is no better way to sell. your start your price low & it may still not sell. u still have to pay listing fee on ebay, I couldent get my thing to sell 5 times & I made it really low.I started out the bid at 1.00 and only got 1 bid I felt bumed out becuase it wasent worth that much. u people never have problems selling on ebay. if u dont sell on Craigslist Mabyee now know whats to buy it maybee, enybody else having bad luck

What were you trying to sell? What is your feedback? Most peeps are reluctant to buy sight unseen to someone with low or zero feedback. How was your auction worded? Was shipping high? They all play factors.Different times of the year are also important.

yes, you pay ebay to get your item promoted! IT IS GREAT!

eBay is tough right now due to the sluggish economy. And I agree that their fees are a little high, but I'm sure not gonna call it quits.

As for your situation:
A lot has to do with how well you present yourself as a seller and how well you present your item. You need immaculate feedback (at least 98%) to be trusted by buyers. And you need to offer shipping, and you need to accept PayPal.

It takes a lot of experience to actually make money on eBay. Im a PowerSeller with over a $1000 per month in sales and it took a lot of learning to get where I'm at. It will take a lot longer to call it a full time job.

I use Craigslist too though. Some items sell better locally and thats where Craigslist works best.

I am not sure if this is a question or venting; however, I can tell you that I have been selling on auction sites for 8 years. When I started to sell, I sold on Yahoo Auctions. I have stopped selling on Ebay, because it is no longer beneficial for me. On the contrary, I still buy things on ebay if the shipping fees are fair.

3 things have happened that have slowed down sells for some people: postage increase and fraud and frequent fee increases for sellers.

Yes, some people will say that it is about your wording, but after so long, you learn the trick of keywords. Some people will say it has something to do with your feedback numbers, but some people don't even look at feedback numbers.

I can tell you one thing that has saved me alot of wasted money of fees: research. Prior to listing an item, research Ebay and other sites to see if what you are offering is marketable. If there is a bunch of competition for the item that you are selling, you won't make much, because other people are selling the same thing for either a lower price or for free shipping.

High shipping fees can be a turn off as well. But, the biggest turn off for me was paying that big bill every month; I felt like Ebay was starting to pimp me.

It may be more cost effective to sell on craigslist, but you are getting a whole different calliber of people who shop on the each site.

A great photo is worth more than many words. I have found that I will not buy from people who have alot of junk in the background and blurry pictures. Also, I tried to give my customers more than one shot of a photo. Incidentally, if you want to list a bunch of photos, making your chances better to sell, you can use a picture hosting site, and not pay ebay for listing more than one photo.

If you questions about ebay, their community forum is very helpful. You can use that forum to help you with everything from the best camera suggestions to pricing.

Suggestion: If your items are worth more to you than $1.00, sell them for a fixed price, because people like me or just waiting until the last few seconds to bid $1.05 on your item, and then brag about how I bought this cellphone for $1.05 (just kidding).

And...

What are you asking?

the trick to selling on ebay is RESEARCH.

the item you want to sell - SEE if it sells - or has been selling on ebay - look at the completed auctions for this same items(hoping it has the same item on ebay)...

If it doesn't sell the 2nd time around - I give up on it - and if its clothes - save it untill right before school starts - people buy clothes item more often then!

just use the paint

Ok well it depends on what item you sell on eBay. I recently tried to sell 25 Dan Marino football cards and started the bid at 0.01, but no one even bidded. But when i started selling Jordan shorts i made a ten dollar profit almost every pair i sold. But the best way to tell if your item will sell is to do research. Ebay has a program called "want it now" it is a way for buyers to ask eBay sellers to sell a certain item. So if someone wants an item that you are willing to sell, inform the buyer and they bid on the item 99% of the time. And don't even bother with that other web site, ebay is ebay because it has something that almost no other site has. Millions and Millions and MILLIONS of buyers.

the time of year and the product is always a factor in selling anything and sure craigs is a great place to sell also if you think about it ebay is a auction so you never know what to expect .... and yes sure not everyone has luck selling and thats everwhere

Bev
Some people have really good luck. You have to pick you items to sell very carefully. Look at the completed listings to see what has sold before you, and it will also give you an idea of how much to ask for you. Ebay recently changed their fee scale so that it costs less for sellers when their items don't sell. I made lots of money last year on ebay, but I have a humdinger of a product. Its unique and its got a small market. Bought a new car 6 weeks ago with the proceeds. Don't give up.
