Ex girfreind wants money for leaving my home??
my question is i own my home name is on everything, but my girl is moving out and she wants money for leaving, been together for 8 months in the home and she gives me a check for "rent" every month for half the mortgage. 2 utilities are under her name, and she gave me a check for the holding fee for the home when we first bought it... so what do i tell her? she have any leway on me to get money???

Landlord
It sounds like she helped you buy the house. She made the down and paid half of the mortgage.

If you are not a complete *** you would give her that money back.

It could depend on why she is leaving. You probably don't need to give her anything if she was just living with you and paying rent. And has paid you the bills like anyone else would of. Cheques mean there is a paper trail.

My suggestion would be to not give "refund" any of the rent money as people have to pay for where they live but if you are changing utilities into your name now to just give her back the refund that the companies give you or to give her the amount that she paid to start the accounts. This will just help make it a smoother transition. Could go nasty otherwise.....

if she was "renting" then you dont own her anything.
If she paid half of the item then i quess you should .

tell her to take a hike!

mollym404
she was pretty much just paying for what she used with the utility check and she would have had to pay rent on another apartment if she wasnt living with you and it would have cost more becuase she wasnt sharing so in the end it seems to me that you saved her money when she would have spent more elsewhere dont give her the cash

ann
"Holding fee" is not a term I am familiar with. I know, deposit, and down payment, do you mean either of those? You also left out the amount she left for this "holding fee". Some information is missing. But I think you might owe her some money for that holding fee. I read nothing about a lease or other agreements. And since any money that has been paid went towards your mortgage and your equity, you owe her.

It might be worth it to pay her to leave. Then change the locks.

What is a holding fee? How much was it? How much money does she want in order to leave?

Get the utilities out of her name immediately.

irontaxi
she payed half you should pay her back....wtf...previous replier....why should she take a hike?

money is money...she paid.. she is leaving...you owe her something i would think...

(probably legally as well)

aoiisuiren
As long as your name is on the deed to the house I do not think legally you have to give her money. Essentially she was paying rent. But if she gets a lawyer they might think differently.

But if the mortgage, deed, and if you pay back that initial check, I am pretty sure you will be completely in the clear. The first check is probably the only arguable amount you could owe her.

ROCKS
TELL HER TO GO EAT SOME ROCKS!!!
