Sorry, if there is no buy out option, they are correct, you are locked into your lease. Find another job, and in the mean time try to borrow from someone to keep the payment up. |

This happened last year to my step daughter, she talked to the landlord and they deferred three payments for her, but they had her sign an agreement that stated once she moved out of the apartment, she owed them rent for three months, hope you get this lucky, she had excellent landlords. |

Get a room mate even if you have to sleep on the couch. Pay them what you can. They have to take you to court and that takes at least 30 days then they give you 7 days to vacate. |

My fiance and i werent in the exact same position, but we ended up finding a house, but we still had 5 months on our lease..I told my landlord I had to move due to a job transfer...(However she found out the truth, and didnt have a problem with it!) we didnt have to pay the remaining months either, she let it go since she was proud of our situation. So what I'm trying to say is, Just be honest, if they're going to be so cold hearted as to making you pay the remaining term when you dont even have a job, then somethings wrong..So Id just tell them whats going on, and go from there |

Unfortunately, you are legally bound to paying rent through the end of your lease... unless your landlords breached the contract in one way or another. Depending upon the state in which you live, they can bring a civil suit against you for back rent. I would suggest finding out if there is an agency in your area that knows your rights as a renter and hope there is some loophole in your contract. Much of the times these agencies work en gratis. try to find someone else who wants the apt and take them to your landlord. landlord is worried about getting their rent on a monthly basis so they can cover their mortgage and expenses.... if you get someone else in & it doesn't affect their pocket they are more likely to let you out.
just my two cents as a landlord -- finding a new renter is a pain but the eviction process is even worse~ |

Did you pay a deposit, which is usually the equivalent to a months rent? As far as i know, one of the purposes for a deposit is if you terminate your lease at any stage before the contract is up, you loose it, giving the landlord a month to find someone else without loosing financially, therefore they cannot claim a loss, as that amount of time, is considered reasonable. |
