Gift for Real Estate Agent?
I just bought my first home with the help and guidance of a great real estate agent. Because it was with a non- profit first time home owners company, he doesn't get a commission. Any suggestions for a good gift to show my appreciation? Keep in mind that I don't have a lot of cash left now that I have a mortage! I'd like to keep it under $150. I was thinking of an Ipod but I'm not sure.

Thanks for all the input. After further thought and your input, I think the Ipod is a bad idea. I like the idea of the gift card so I think I'll go that route. Everyone loves Starbucks so maybe a Starbucks card? As for the limit of gift...maybe I should keep it under $100?

The company is called First Home. It's located in San Francisco. I attended a first home buying seminar earlier this year and learned a lot. I would highly recommend going to one of these as buying a house is quite complicated. I can give you his name if you're interested. Just add @yahoo.com to my name and email me.

As cool an item as an Ipod is, it's also kind of a white elephant...you gotta feed it downloads, etc., and unless you are certain that the agent would welcome that (what if he/she isn't into computers that way or doesn't have the time to download things), a gift card at a lovely store (or even an electronics store) would allow him/her to get exactly what they'd most like.

A referral is the greatest compliment...get 10 other people to use her/him

I am a real estate agent, and in my state we can not accept a gift if its over $100.00 in value. You may want to check on that. If he does, and the states RE commission finds out he could be facing some serious fines. But if you can find a nice IPod for under $100.00, that would be great.

A framed letter where you mention his skills. Something he can hang in his office and show his other customers.

A cheque will definately be the best gift as he can use it for his preference.

Ummm... Not sure how to tell you this, but the agent gets a commission no matter what. They should be buying you a present -- that's customary!

Those first-time non-profit outfits are great but what they do has no impact on the broker's commission.

I checked this through two friends who are in real estate, one a broker and one an agent. They never heard of a zero-commission non-profit deal.

I love when people give me gift certificates to nice restaurants.
If you know what cuisine he likes it's an easy choice. $ 150 should be OK for an upscale diner for two.
If he's a big giver, make a donation in his name and present him a certificate ( but that's only if he's a philanthropist-type).
Try to think what his interests may be and choose accordingly.
Also, may I ask you, what is the name of the agency he works for - I am thinking to buy a house ( first time).

Referrals are the best gift you can give your Realtor, he/she will love you for it, also write a short testimonial on why you like him/her, that they can use for there website.

Buy a gift certificate for a nice place to eat. and send it with a bouquet of flowers or something like that. never buy actual gifts for people you do not know well. like the last girl said it will go over like a white elephant.

Whats the company called? Only becasue I'm looking to buy 1st time too. I think a gift-card would be a great idea to a dept. store or a gift basket. Is it a male or female?

Nice photo albums / picture frames.
Personalized office items (like a botter, inbox, etc)

I love Red Envelope. I have bought nice gifts from them MANY times - prices are usually reasonable and most products come with a story card to personalize it.

Thats very thoughtful of you! Best wishes!
