redkazoo | HELP I'm house sitting? |
I am house sitting for my manager while she is gone for 14 days. She wants me to take care of her cat and make sure their house isnt broken into, etc. I'm not sure how much she will pay me but I know that it will cost be ten bucks in gas to drive there and back each day. She asked me how much I want for the house sitting, what should my price be?? |

It depends how close you are to your manager. If you are already really close, then ask for $ 50 / day. If you are not that close, but are ambitious and want to be close to her in order to rise up in the company, then just tell her to give you $ 20 bucks a day to cover for your gas. This will get you on her good side, and also she will feel like she owes you a favor. It is a good thing when people that have power in your company feel like they owe you a favor. You'll see, especially when it comes time to give you a raise. |

You gotta get atleast 200 a week unless she gave ya party rights & you have nothingelse to do. 14 days is a long time to be sitting in someone's house. |

Ten bucks in gas to drive there and back each day? This is an eighty mile round trip? She's got to pay at LEAST $75 a day to make this worthwhile... |

Find out what the going rate is in your area by looking in your local paper or fliers. Charge her the lowest of the range that you find, plus $20 per day for gas. Make sure she knows the range and knows that you're charging her at the low end. If she thinks it's a great experience for you to be in her home (because it's bigger or fancier than yours, for instance) you should make sure she recongizes that you're doing her a favor, and really prefer your own home. She should tip you if you make all of this clear, and you won't have stiffed your own boss. |

Politely explain that it will take ten dollars gasoline money each day and ten dollars for your efforts. This doesn't sound like too much to me. Maybe it's even a bit too little, because your time is valuable to you and needs to be paid for.
That's the hard thing about working for your employer, it's weirder than just taking a job for a stranger.
If it came down to it, for myself, I would rather just ask for the minimum and then be happy if she paid more. You will be working with her for quite a while, hopefully, and want to be on good terms with her.
Hope it all works well for you! |

Check out this website: thesittingservice.com/main/house.htm
It gives a good idea of fee schedules according to what services you perform, and then I would add $10 to whatever you decide is proper compensation for whatever you did. But you should have negotiated the terms and payment before she left. If she thinks what you want is too much, she can refuse to pay you anything if you don't have a written contract. Sorry, that's the law. |

Never do a favor for your boss. What will happen to your job if something happens to the cat while she is away? |
|

She should cover your gas, and make sure there is enough cat food and litter or money to get some.
Other than that, don't expect money for the favor. You will be providing your manager with priceless peace of mind and Will be rewarded in "some" way.
Maybe with brownie points,or karma, or just the satisfaction that you are a caring trustworthy person.
Don't sweat the small stuff. |
