Do Over | HELP!!!! I just signed a month to month lease, the apartment is terrible. How do I put in my notice to vacate? |
Wait till my next rent payment or turn in as early as now?
The apartment was not ready to move into when the first told me it was and rented to me. I had at most luke warm water for the first week, and now still have issues with getting hot water. They also not put on newer screens and so most windows I can not open. I have had slumlords before and gotten the City inspecters involved. These ones are just LazyLords. I have read my contract and it does not say anything about haveing to stay for a certain amount of time. Can I just give them notice if this is a month to month? Do I have to wait till the end of the first month?
I just don't want to put in my notice, then learn that I have to stay six montrhs legally and have an akward 5 months.
HELP!!!! |

Call your lazylord and find out if it is a month to month lease. If it is then give them a notice right then and there giving them 30 days notice and start apartment hunting. Good Luck. |

You can give notice now. If there's no mention that you must pay for a full month at a time, you can prorate and only pay for half of March when you make your payment and move out in the middle of the month. |

Look up in your city the Landlord/Tenant office ... file a complaint with them. You may be able to move out sooner .if you do hope you can get your deposit back.. good luck.... |

If you are month to month, you have to give 30 days notice. If you don't then the landlord can legally keep your security deposit if you gave one. |

If you are month to month, you have to give them one month's notice. I'm pretty sure you can give them notice on say Feb 15 that you will be vacating on March 15 but you should check your contract just to be sure. |

Give 30 days notice in writing with a certified letter. |

Read your contract very carefully. If you're month to month, giving them 30 days notice probably won't work. I wouldn't be surprised if the contract calls for 60 day notice.
So you have a choice. |

If you are on month-to-month it is not a lease. You can move out when ever you want to. However, depending on the stae you live in... Oregon is 30 days and Washington is 2 weeks...you have to give the proper amount of notice. As for the repairs, they should have been listed on your movein paperwork before accepting the apt and moving in. !st go to the manager/landlord and tell them of the problem anew. You should get a maintenance request filled out, that allows them to enter for repairs, get your copy. then...If your building is run by a management company, call them if repairs not done within 3 days. |
