Cin | HOW MUCH RENT SHOULD WE CHARGE NOW? |
My Brother-in-law is currently living with my husband and I. We charge him $500 a month for rent, food and bills that include his cell phone and car insurance (we are under a family plan with the cell and he's under my husbands insurance). Now he wants his girlfriend to move in with us. Our total monthly bills are approx $2200 including mortgage. How much should we charge now that she is gonna live with us? Additional Details ok $800 is what we were thinking was reasonable. We informed them of this and they disagreed. Their offer was $600!!!! Are u serious? |

I would charge her 600.00 a month. Your brother-in-law is family where she is not. I think 500 for him is low. So, charge more for her since she is not family but be respectful that it is his girlfriend. Make sure she signs a month to month lease stating what she will pay and what all that includes. |

500 + 300 = 800
thats fair. |

I'd look at it like this, are you hoping they will share equal costs with you? If so - they are probably going to move out and also resent you as a consequence.
If she won't cost you an appreciable much more in actual costs and lives in the same space with the brother in law, then a couple hundred more to them is probably sufficient. |

$800.00 a month... |

She may not be on the cell phone plan or car insurance plan but she should definetly pay rent. Get your local newspaper and see what the going rate is right now for renting a room in a house.
Add to that a quarter of the utilities she will be using, gas, electric, water and then don't forget to draw up a rental agreement.
If you don't have a rental agreement and she decides not to pay you you won't have a leg to stand on in court.

i would bump it up to at least $800, this is really up to you guys |

I'd say slightly less than what your monthly bills that he is benefiting from. I'd say 1100 or 1000 - it's a bit steep to double because it's not like having her there will increase the living space you're all needing, and not a lot more electricity or anything, but your bills WILL go up a bit with a 4th mouth and body to wash. |

well since she would be living in the same room as him you would think about food, elec, water. about how much would she be using I would say to add somewhere from $350 & or higher. |

I would charge her an additional $500. No reason she should get a free ride... but im a hard a$$. |

If she weighs under 160, charge them $750. Any larger than that, charge $1000. If they ask, tell them, "this package is sold by weight, not by volume". |

I moved in my brother a year ago, and had to deal with the same mess. OK, I devided to household bills such as electric by how many people were in the house. Now Check your old bills and find out the difference after he moved in. that will give you an idea of how much an additional person is going to cost. so now that you know what utilitys are going to cost for the two of them, add on the car insurance and phone. Then add on the living cost (rent in general).
How many of them are you. if its you and you husband and brother inlaw, and now his girlfriend. they need to pay half I would say 1100.00 and make them understand , thats cheap , because that just covers your mortgage alone and not the utilitys. |

Well lets see...you charge him $500...so if she moves in and also gets a cell on your family plan, then charge her the exact same amount. Since this is not HIS AND HER house, they have less privileges than you do and do not have free reign over the house. Asking for exactly half of the billst from people that have to ask your permission to do things in the house just doesn't seem too fair. So just ask them to cough up $1,000 for the two of them. |
|

i think you should do 1100 since its 4 of you and them count as 2 and u and ur husband count as 2 so just let them pay for half and you guys pay for half |
|

andy
|
take what it would cost for you and your husband, then whtaev the total is minus that total. and there's rent. |
|

that girl

half it, only fair 2 and 2, and each set pays half, fair's fair, yup yup |
