Have to be moved out of apt in over a month but afraid I won't close on a house in time.?
I still have 6 weeks or so til I need to move out of my apartment, but I'm afraid I won't be done closing on a house by then. If it comes down to it, is there a way to speed up the process and make it easier?

Talk to your realtor.

See if your current landlord would accomodate you and pro-rate your rent.

Or see if the homeowner would accept rent from you beginning today for 60 days. I have heard of similar things done when it didn't appear that anything would be halting closure.

You keep yourself and the homeowner safe if you put your stuff into storage and only take to the house the things you need to survive. Put it in writing that if there is any problem with closing that would mean you are not buying the house, that you would be out in 3 days.

You should know what kind of escrow you have. There are 30 day, 60 day, 90 day escrows. You should know the date of closing and it can't be speeded up.

From the sound of it, it doesn't sound to me like you are currently in escrow...are you? Sorry, we use escrow here on the West Coast. Do you have a contract on a house?

If so, you will have a specific date set for the closing. Why are you concerned that you won't meet that date?

If you don't have a contract on a house already, then yes, you have very little time left.

I don't know about where you are, but you can typically extend your lease for another several weeks or a month or so here. Talk to your apartment manager and let them know your situation. If you've been a good tenant, you are more likely to get cooperation from the landlord. If not, be prepared to move.

No way to speed up the escrow process, other than to provide every document they ask for.

You may have to extend your lease by another month, or move to a hotel. Talk to your landlord.

Call the realtor and and the financial institution and tell them. Maybe they will put you on the front burner.

No there is no way to speed up the process. Look into a storage facility and contact a holiday inn express.

Usually doesn't take longer than 6 weeks to close. The homeowner may give you preoccupancy with all stipulations in writing such as how much rent you'll pay them, etc. Your landlord may let you stay an extra week or two or he may have the apt rented for when you move out. Don't stress over it too soon. About 2 weeks from your scheduled closing date you should know if everything's proceeding well with the closing and whether or not to talk to the homeowner about preoccupancy.

Maybe you can rent the house you're buying - if the owner's moving out in time for you to move in, you don't have to complete the closing if you just pay him/her rent for the time before it's yours.

Or maybe you can renew your current lease for only a month, or month-to-month if it'll be longer? A lot of landlords can be flexible.

not that i'm aware of. if you're working with an agent they should be able to help you with your problem. also, your apartment should be able to pro-rate you if you need to stay a few more days. or weeks.
