Katie B | Have to leave Parents Home? |
My Parents have decided to sell up and leave the country - leaving my brother, sisters and I homeless.
Our ages range from 17 to 26 - are we entitled to any sort of housing help?
We all work full time, although the youngest two don't earn very much as you can imagine.
As for the other 3, they are all in debt so after paying everything each month aren't left with very much.
From the Middlesex area by the way!
FYI my parents are both ill, one terminally and they just want to enjoy the rest of their lives without the stress of this country.
I don't blame them at all!
We all do still live at home, although we pay £200 a month each and do all the housework!
We just realise it's going to cost alot more to move out and do it alone! Additional Details Wes's Granny: Did you miss the bit where it says we all have full time jobs??? Numb nuts. |

My commiserations. I'm sorry that everything is so bad at present for you all.
If you all pay £200 each, does that mean that you are putting £1000 p.m. into the kitty?
If so then I'm sure you could rent a house between you and not have much spending money, but as long as you budget food shopping carefully, you could manage?
Do enquire at local housing office, citizens advise bureau, local housing associations etc. They may be able to help out.
I do hope that you get something sorted, you deserve to. Ignore the creep that is rude.
Good luck. |

If any of your incomes are low enough, you should be entitled to rent allowance. Your local Citizen's Advice Bureau will have leaflets on that, and, if necessary, can help you claim.
I suggest you scour the rental sections of the local papers and maybe sign up with a reputable renting agency. All 4 of you should be able to afford some kind of house to rent together. Assuming you are 3 girls + 1 boy, 2 girls can share a bedroom, so you only need a 3 roomed house or flat.
Seriously, if you saw some of the many scabby, tiny, vermin-ridden flats I rented years ago, you'd be horrified, but I survived, and it made me better able to cope in the world, plus more compassionate about how the other half lives.
Best to regard this as an opportunity rather than a problem. |

I would approach all the Housing Associations and the local council housing department in your area for help and advice.
You may be considered a priority because one of you is only 17.
Another avenue you can look at is to contact Shelter, the homeless charity. The Middlesex area is high demand and you will be competing with immigrants and asylum seekers for accommodation.
Look at adverts for private landlords and see if you qualify for Housing Benefit to top up your rent. Some local councils have a scheme where they will help you with a deposit to rent privately.
The best advice will come from Shelter and you can email them stating your circumstances and they will reply but it will take a few days. |

Have you considered asking your parents to sell the house to you with them financing the loan. If there are 5 of you that's 1000 already. If you could come up with 100 more each, it might be worthwhile for your parents to do this, provided they have paid off the house & own it free & clear. Its something to think about. |

could your parents sell to you all? you can get a mortgage between more than 2 people. |

ouch - sorry to hear of their illness and your situation!
if you all pay rent would you all be willing to group together an rent somewhere?
Call your local housing office and ask, if between you all you can come to a solution to help each other out.
Good luck and hope it all gets sorted |

If your paying £200 already its a good start, just get extra hours and pay your own way - dont rely on handouts!
I work full time and pay rent on a flat if I can do it so can you! |

Ha ha, the same thing happened to me a few years ago. My parents decided to sell up & move to Majorca to open a bar. They kinda thought "it's now or never", and as I was 21 and my brother was 20 at the time, we were old enough to make up our own minds as to what to do. He chose to go to Spain wwith them, but I wasn't in a position to go, I was halfway through a qualification, and had just started seeing a great guy (we're actually engaged now!) so was homeless like you! Unfortunately, in my area (North Cumbria) you only get help with housing if you are pregnant or on drugs. As I am neither, my parents gave me some money from the sale of the house to cover 1 year's rent, and my wages would cover the bills. After the year was up, I could either go over and stay with them, or see if I was in a position to move in with the fella. In the end I stayed in England with him, & it worked out fine, as he then paid half the bills anyway. If I were you, I'd ask your parents if they would consider giving you some money, so you can set up home together to start, and find your feet. You could always spend the time looking for flatmates/shared houses for when the money runs out. It doesn't have to be much, but I'm afraid you will all have to get used to the big wide world! You might be surprised, I'm more sensible with money now, and have more now in the bank than I ever did when I lived at home! I hope your parents enjoy living abroad, and I wish them (and you lot!) good luck xxx |
|

I love my baby boy!
|
Is there any way your parents would leave the house and let you all split up the bills? |

For goodness sake team up and foot the rent together. You guys are not young anymore.
Both of your parents have their rights too, to enjoy their retirement and live stress-free lives as you quoted. |

I don't believe there is any organization that will help three strong young people. Here's the ticket. Get jobs. Rent a small house or apartment. |
