EndlessWave99 | Have you ever noticed that 99% of landlords or apartment managers are not nice people? |
I've lived in 5 apartments in my life. Of all those apartments, all of the managers' attitudes have ranged from mildly rude to down right sneaky and mean! Why is this? They have also all been white women, varying in ages. The current apartment I am in has probably the worst/meanest management of all the apartments I have lived in--and that's pretty bad.
Seriously, has anyone else noticed this? They are some of the unhappiest people in the world. |

I too have found this to be a problem. My current one though is almost angelic. But I found out that he has a strict side, so I asked him about it. He said from his experience most tenants are dishonest. They lie on their applications, they want in that apartment and will not tell the truth about evictions or such. They will sign a lease that says no pets allowed and then go out a buy a dog. The lease says no long term guests, then they move their boyfriend in the next day, or their mother. He said if you act like a friend, tenants will take advantage of you, and walk all over you. They think oh, Joe won't mind if I do my sisters laundry and him pay for the water. Joe is my friend and he won't say a thing... It's a get tough and be tough attitude or turn the keys over to the tenants. |

And 99% of tenants are losers. See how the statement sounds.
How can you make such a statement? I know a lot of landlords/managers. Maybe you just seem to rub them the wrong way.
There are "not nice people" in every job, but 99%. |

I have had some good landlords. They were generally the ones who actually owned the property and did not work for the owner. The only bad experience I had with a landlord was one who decided they did not want me to stay in the apartment complex anymore because I complained everytime they cut off my electricity so they could work on the stupid gate to the complex. For some reason, my power and the power to that gate were somehow connected and every single week they would have to try to fix it. Sometimes I would come home and find that the workers had not turned the power back on after they left for the night. I complained about that constantly and when my lease was up, I was told that they were not interested in renewing it. I took them up on that and moved to a better place. However, this place with the bad gate had the best view of any apartment I have ever had. It looked out over the ocean. |

I'm sure it isn't easy being a landlord, always taking calls from people who aren't happy because something in their home isn't working right. That doesn't excuse their demeanor, but it's something to think about.
You can't change a person's personality, but you can change your reaction to it. Don't let it get to you. The landlord/tenant relationship isn't based on friendship, but business. It's best to keep emotions out of it and conduct yourself in a calm manner. Hopefully the landlord will do so as well. If not, there's nothing you can do but feel good knowing you are the better person.
For the record, I've had probably 10 landlords in my lifetime and only two out of the bunch weren't nice, so as soon as my lease was up at those places, I left. |

Nope, never noticed. Im sure it has a lot to do with where you live. If you live in an area that tends not to pay rent on time, breaks things, trashes apartments, then they have a reason to sort of judge everyone that way. |

It's probably because they are tired of dealing with nasty people (not you) who are rude too. I have the greatest Landlord. He actually lowered my rent after I did some repair work and didn't even mention it to him or ask for the money to be taken off my rent. I've also live here for 14 yrs and always pay my rent early. But that's me, some people have to hunted down for their rent $$. |

Look at it from their side as well. I know it's not a party to have to deal with tenants who do not pay their rent on time, make alot of noise, trash the place and then leave in the middle of the night to avoid paying. I am not saying that you are necessarily one of those, but if you've been burned before, it's only normal to be very vary. Not many of them go and check someone's credit history & references before signing a tenant up. Even in a large apartment complex like mine where they used to but are more interested in filling the empty spaces now wind up with eviction notices which I never saw until the last 2 years. So I suspect that not the most reputable people move in and some of these people don't complete their lease, and have no idea of why the landlord is suing them.
Unfortunately, it works in reverse for some of us. Just remember that there are always more than one side, and some day it may be you deciding on a tenant. Good luck. |

I always feel like they are trying to get something out of you. And if there are 2 in the building WATCH out! Because they never talk to each other and will give you conflicting answers. |

The problem with the landlords is the bad tenants. How many times would you have to get burned to cop a attitude? Im not saying all tentants are bad its the bad ones that make it hard on all the tentants. Landlords just get tired of not getting paid on time or at all. Having someone trash their prop and have to go to court to get the bums out and still cant collect any money. The problem is the tenants have all the rights. Tell me anywhere in the world where you dont pay your rent for 3-6 months and you still have to spend more money to go to court to get a tenant out? Or tenants wanting to break their lease all the time. Just read all the tenants wanting to break lease here. The landlord has mtg payments to make and if they dont get paid by the tenant then it comes out of their pocket. Only in the good old USA. |

If your job was to collect money and maintain properties and deal with complaints-perhaps you wouldn't have a lot of sunshine in your day either? If you are the one to lighten their day, your life gets a lot easier! Cookies fresh from the oven? Flowers to celebrate autumn? A little pumpkin with a happy face to brighten their day? Halloween candy? for their desk? For trick or treaters-It doesn't have to be about them. Pretend for a minute that they actually work for you because in a strange way they do!We all influence the lives of those around us. Plan for it and watch the change! Good luck! |
