hi my partner has broke up with me the other day so i have got to move out with my son i went to the council to explain my situation and thay have told me to look for a private rented house and then they will pay with housing benifit but i cant find anywhere thats accepts housing benifit is anyone in been in the same situation?

Hi.,go back to them and tell them that there is no where available that will take anyone on benefit,or with children, and you need a place immediately, say your ex has kicked you out onto the streets with your son,and unless they find you somewhere to live you will just stay in the offices until they do find you somewhere. If you were an immigrant you would get a house chucked at you fully furnished and stocked up with food ,oh and sattelite t.v and probably a car too.You have to get snotty with these people so tell them if they do not rehouse you and your son then if they make you leave their office you will go straight to the nearest phone box and ring the local newspaper and tell them the story.

okay you need to look in the news paper for HUD available... Call back your council and work harder and not get a so so answer... You need a roof over your head... Also don't live with someone else again, I am sure you already figured out the down side to this...

Willz
Since your son will be living with you, can't you ask your partner to move out?

Good luck whatever happens!

No luckily enough. You should contact the council again and explain that no one will accept you cos you are on housing benefit. They may know of letting agents that do.
Also check your local papers in the housing section, some of them will say whether they accept housing benefit or not.
If the worst comes to the worst and you cant find anything go to citizens advice and tell them your situation, they will do their best to help you. Good luck x

Some landlords will not accept housing vouchers because although it is guarenteed money-it is a lot of paper-work and it takes a while. I know plenty of people that have been in the same boat as you. Normally, the housing voucher department has a list of landlords who will accept your voucher. These landlords are normally already in the system-so there is not a whole lot of red tape. Call your local housing department for more details.
You may live in a neighborhood where many people do not take section 8. You can find government assistants, but you have to look hard for a good location. Many of the LL in better neighborhoods do not accept section 8 vouchers. Look hard and something will come your way. Make sure you are looking in all the right neighborhoods. You do not want to end up in a slum-neighborhood because you had to make a quick decision.

Also, another good idea for you would be a work-college program. The welfare department gives child care aide if you are trying to make a decent lifestyle for you and your child. This means, they will work with you to find a job, and go to school.
Good Luck!
