Yes they can , they have lost or given someone else credit for your money order by mistake . I'm sorry to say that with out the receipt your out of luck. You might be able to go to where you bought it and if you know the day or within a few days sometimes they can run a report and track the numbers. How could you loose a receipt so important ?
Good Luck but im guessing you will have to pay anyway and if you can prove it later then get it back |

Legally the onus is on you to provide proof you DID pay not for them to prove you didn't.
Without a reciept, you're screwed.
Check with WHERE you bought it and see if some frienbdly soul is willing to hlep find the order and a reciept number for you. |

Yes, if you can't prove you pay the rent with a money order receipt. You are screwed if did pay the rent. Better find the receipt fast. |

You can retrace your steps, check about the money order you purchased, and then track it down to see if it has been cashed. If not, you can cancel the money order and obtain a replacement. It's not a terribly easy process with a money order, and it may cost you some fees. |

Contact the place you bought the money order and get another copy and then set up a folder for filing important receipts like rent |

Write a letter to corporate and let them know you've always paid before in a timely manner. Also let them know that you can't find the October receipt stub. Provide them with copies of the receipt stub of all the other months you paid, including November's.
It sounds like you mailed the rent to corporate instead of giving the money order to your apartment manager. I've always preferred to give the rent directly to the manager so I could get a receipt from them. Eventually, I moved on to carbon copy checks, as double protection in addition to the bank statements, which would show when a certain rent check had been cashed/posted.
Not all apartment managers are "out to get you." I've had some good ones and some bad ones. If you communicate with them in a calm respectful manner (no profanity please) they will most likely respond to you in kind.
By following my own advice I was able to get out of a lease without paying the early lease penalty fee. That was a cool apartment complex. |

the good news is all you have to do is call the maker of the money order and they can trace who cashed it and when. I sell western union money orders they charge five bucks to trace the money order but it is worth it. good luck |

You need to do what the people above said. Maybe its time to be financially responsible and get a checking account. |

You have to produce a receipt, yes. try the place you purchased your Money order and see if they can help you.
If you don't get what your needing, I would pay agian and this time startputting receipts up in a file cabinet. Or make copies. I always keep all receipts from everything I get or do. My Mother taught me that one years ago. From food receipts to bill receipts. Oh & just like tax papers, keep yor receipts for 7 years. Anything can happen in that time and if it happens after 7 years, they are out of luck not you. |

go to your bank, they should have a record of it, or show your bank statement shown for the amount of money taken out for your rent |

They sure can. At best, you'll only be able to prove that you purchased the money order. You'll never prove they received it. You should NEVER send a money order in the mail, because you won't have a receipt when you need it.
Sorry. This may prove an expensive lesson. |

I would suggest always paying by check so you have a paper trail and if you do pay by cash or money order, always have your landlord SIGN OFF on it - if you have to send rent through the mail, always keep a receipt. As for your question, if they try to make you pay twice, just take them to small claims, it's cheap and easy - takes about 10 minutes to file a case and you can talk to a paralegal right there for free. |
