House price slump?
Have you been affected by this?

I'm trying to sell one of my houses now, but I'm only expecting 10K less than it was valued last year.

I'm fuming!
Additional Details
I have more than one house cause I invested my money in property at the time..

Only 10k less? You shouldn't be fuming, you should be pleased! How about the people that have lost $100,000 or more in value?

You made the investment, so I guess there is only one person to be fuming at.

Its the risk you take when you speculate. But at least you have other houses. A lot of people are going bankrupt because they cant afford the one theyve got.

acermill
Why are you fuming ? Did you somehow think that real estate was guaranteed to forever keep going up in value ?

Most folks have been affected by the current valuation decreases in real estate. You just chose to jump into the ring when values started on the downslide.

Why are you fuming? The fact that house prices can fluctuate is what made you want to invest in them in the first place. You can't have it both ways, only that they rise but never fall.

Depending on when you bought them you have probably made a very good profit anyway.

my house in florida is worth 80 k less than 3 years ago yes everyone is suffering...

No is not the time to sell houses, a great time to buy. If possible find a good renter and ride out the storm.

A housing slump was predictable. It simply took longer than I thought, but was inevitable. Moreover, it is a good thing. They are ridiculously over-valued and, by encouraging feckless lending/borrowing, it has screwed the country. You need to be more savvy.

emucompboy
I have been affected by this. I have been unable to buy a house because they've been overpriced because irresponsible lending organizations lent money, badly via teaser rate ARMs, to people who wouldn't be able to make payments when the ARMs went from teaser rate to real rate.

sorry, but its actually going to benefit me because we are hoping to buy a house soon and rent out the one we already have.
i do feel sorry for the people who are losing money on their houses though but it wont stop me putting a lower offer in for the ones we are interested in.

Money isn't everything. Why have more than one house?

I'm happy renting, at least there's less risk

I'm in Australia and even I know the American market is in trouble. What are you dumb?!

Don't sell - rent it out until the market picks up in a few years

There's something sickening about people who own more than one home. It's ugly aggressive capitalism.
Don't sell now,rent it out,until market improves
