because you obviously dont understand that the reason many homeless people are homeless is either due to mental illness or drug use/chronic alcoholism. and for a lot of these people, they do not want to live in a house. To them being put in a house or a council flat means losing their freedom. The street is their life and its where all their friends are. To be homeless, you can sleep when you like, you dont have to work, you can beg for food or go to a soup kitchen where all your friends hang out. and for these people they see us, the ones who have homes and lives, as such snobs so way above them that they hate us. its probably that they hate themselves to some point and dont feel they deserve to be in a house, but more likely that they know that if they cleaned up their act and got a place theyd have to give up drugs or start taking medication and they simply do not want to do that. the true homeless people that long for a place to live are not the ones you see on the street they are the person that lives in their car or someone who sleeps on their friends couch or in a refuge. |

If it is indeed as simple as you say it is, then why don't you both do something about it??
Bev seems very clued up about how to kick these people into shape and get em all a house, so why don't you both start something positive for these people?
Perhaps volunteer for your local Shelter group or soup kitchen or start lobbying your local Mp's to provide more drug and drink rehabs and info and help on addictions and family break up.
People can change things but sitting behind a comp moaning is very easy to do when the issue is so complicated.
DO something yourselves to help! Might not be a bad idea and might even help some people!!!

No need for anyone in the UK to be homeless.If they were to kick the booze and drugs and do an honest day's work they could find a home.There are a few who genuinely have mental problems and cannot find employment and defy all help offered and these are a sad minority fortunately.The rest of the dossers do'nt want to give up the freedom being homeless gives them.
Kendra,I do work as a volunteer for a well known charity which helps all kinds of people with all kinds of problems,and I have seen first hand how much help is out there for anyone who genuinely wants help and is willing to "conform" in order to receive this help.All too often,people are not prepared to give up their anti social habits and percieved freedoms in order to access this help! Please do'nt assume we do'nt care,we just get frustrated because people bleat on about their situations but are not prepared to do anything themselves.They just expect it all handed to them on a plate with no effort from themselves.Maybe you would like to give of your time? |
