Don't wanna offend anybody,,,,But I guess I'am old fashioned...Why is the Government helping these people???? 1st Your house isn't an ATM machine

3rd You refiance,,,,BUT YOU NEED TO READ BETWEEN THE LINES...before signing,,,,Do people just take things @ face value?????
I'm Sry but if you sign something better understand the whole thing....Again I'm not trying to get anybody upset,, But why is the government helping this out???? What about the victims of Katrina???? or the homeless??? Additional Details Disagree or agree,,I dont care,,,,I read between the lines.......People need to use common sence when buying or refinaceing a house!!! |

My own personal opinion is that very few people in any aspect of life when it comes to signing documents read the fine print or between the lines. They just sign.
At least in my profession I am obligated my law to go over and over the document you have signed. And make sure that you understand every detail. You have to tell me "yes", you 100% understand.
Most people think that they have a job for life, or they are going to make $100,000.00 per year or more, so the purchase why over their head. Then when they have a loss of job, or major illness, or take into consideration that the cost of living continues to go up your entire life.
End results is they wind up filing for banckrupcy, or the bank forcloses on their home.
Evan a simple bill when requested in a restaurant, some will have already added the tip into the bill or you have been over charged for drinks that you never ordered, people only read the bottom line. (Nothing wrong with adding an extra tip with the bill if the service was great). Not checking your bill for accurcy is a big mistake.
If you can believe, I know doctors with multi-million dollar homes and when you go into their home they don't have one piece of furniture in their home. The entire family sleeps on the floor. (The outside is very impressive, "status symbol").
The people are the ones who created the mess, and I see no reason why the Government has to bail them out. The Government was not the one who signed the documents in the first place.

I agree with you.....
However we have so many people ripping the banks off (or attempting to) that the government HAS to step in. If the banks fail they will bring the entire economy down with them.
Think history and the great depression. That was only a few greedy people.....now we have millions!
I am worried when a society thought that greed was OK. They thought they had a RIGHT to it in fact! And then their greed is awarded! The next generation will really be hard pressed to develop a moral compass when so many parents are setting such horrible examples! |

As i do agree with what you are saying, the reason the government is doing this is because there are too many mortgage foreclosures and its straining the banks and mortgage rates and they are trying to avoid a ressesion. |

It's election time. The government is buying votes with money they must borrow from CHINA! |

I agree with you to a point......
Part of the problem is that when these people bought homes, they qualified for interest or an ARM rate that had a low APR. So now that they have been in these homes for 3 or how many years, the ARM is over with and they have to pay a higher interest rate. Chances are their credit is shot and they can't refi their home and since home sales are down, they can't easily sell their home.
What people don't realize is that they can contact the real estate company and they can help them find a way to make the payment affordable before they get into trouble. |

I agree with you in general except.
A: - These people were lied to and weren't the most sophisticated buyers in the first place. - Banks are supposed to have a level of fiduciary responsibility. They have ignored this - bankers should be going to jail and thrown out of the industry.
B. - If we don't find RESPONSIBLE ways to help these people we will hurt the economy as a whole, including those of us who have acted in a responsible way ourselves. |

it is called PREDATORY lending - this is because the tactics that many of these sub prime mortgage lenders use are FRAUDULENT which leads to people being MISINFORMED so they make decisions based on FALSE information that they were UNAWARE of. While those are all good reasons to get involved - the gov is getting involved because these predatory lenders have caused a burst in the housing bubble hat is affecting everyone. These crooks actually need to be punished criminally for what they have done, but that won't change the economy, but since this has happened new laws have been enacted to protect against predatory lending. |

You have many valid points, however you are missing something important. If the government lets any part of the economy falter, that could lead to more problems for everyone else. So the government needs to do something to help those people who made mistakes or who are caught up in a bind in the housing market to prevent more problems for the country as a whole. Just think, the value on real estate is going down in ten (10) different areas in the US, what if it went down across the entire US and went further down in those ten areas? It might make the great depression look like a child's fairy tale. |

For one thing most home owners can't pay thier mortgages becouse of high rates of AMRs and Jumbo rates. As fo this morning the FBI in NY and CT are investigating banks and mortgage lenders. But the real issue here is this: what about those families who have already lost their homes due to foreclosures?
I happen to agree with your statement. If u can't afford a house--don't buy it. Don't exceed your budget. Now do I get ten points gorgous? |

I suspect they are helping them so the country doesnt end up with more homeless.
I dont know that its better or worse to help them, but by helping them save their homes it may offset a huger crisis in America, both economic and social.
I agree with you 100%. I refinanced during the whole thing and my first thought is, hey, I knew what I was doing, why didnt they?
Americans need to start using and applying this one concept to everything we do: TAKE 100% RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY for all we do, every day. Period! |

Well i dont agree with what you are saying. Although i dont have a house i rent. But anyway...
I believe that things happen in life sickness, death etc. Which will put you behind on bills and so on. I believe they should help people. |
