If you go on to the housing benefit website you can calculate exactly how much you can get and apply for it there and then! If you have children you do get a little bit extra! X |

If you are living in glasgow...
A rent officer will evaluate the property and say what it is worth the housing benefit's office will only meet the figure agreed by this officer.
Example:
You say a house is worth £500 they will probably say it is worth £350 and that is all they will pay and that is only if you qualify for full Housing Benefit.
On the amount you have stated I doubt very much that you would qualify, if so it is likely to be a small amount...
Full time students are exempt from Council Tax so make sure you contact them straight away to get that sorted.
You are probably best to contact Citizens Advise and they can have a manual calculation worked out for you taking into account your personal allowances, child premiums and any extra premiums that you are due... |

You may get a small amount of help as a student.
They would only pay a percentage though (amount depending where you are)
You would need the 1st mth rent and deposit though.
If you end up homeless you may find a local charity that can help with this.
Go to C.A.B they are really helpful
It is hard to find a landlord that will except benefits
I wish you all the best. This is a horrible time of year to have to go through such a life change |

You are entitled to HB if you are a student and have a child
if you are a joint owner of the matrimonial home they will argue after 6 months that as you have a home you should move back and if you cannot they will argue you have capital in that home to buy your own property and no longer need to claim housing benefit.
If you are not the joint owner of the matrimonial home then you will have no problem after the 6 months
Its a tricky area of benefit law but one that can be argued successfully......Let them pay the 6 months but be aware of what will happen after the period has ended.
Citizens advice can help you with appeals etc |

I am also a mature student with a child in a private rental property.
Yes, you should get your rent paid - I have to pay £650 a month and this is paid in full. You will also be entitled to child tax credit of around £45 a week.
Burseries are not taken into account when working out benefit entitlement and neither is childcare. Talk to your local education authority because, as a single parent you will be entitled to the Special Grant which means that you get this instead of the maintainance grant (But it is the same amount but this is not taken into account when working out benefit entitlement). With this special grant you also get a larger loan entitlement. I think you also get the Parents Learning Allowance which is also not taken into account with benefit calculations.
This sounds complicated but it is quite straight forward. Go to your student counselling dept. and get some help with filling in the forms & get them off quick. First thing Monday morning, get your housing benefit claim in. Housing benefit is only backdated from when they receive the form. you should get most of your rent paid. Good luck
If you go to the student direct website you can get all this info there. One word of warning, ensure that you local authority knows the law on students and benefits or they may take grants into account. |

It sounds like Women's Aid would be helpful for you as well as the Citizens Advice Bureau. It is hard to say exactly but reading between the lines of your question I would suggest you find your local Women's Aid in the phone book and give them a ring. |

You will more than likely get tax credit plus family allowance
then there will be child maintenance from your partner plus what you earn £11,000 All these will make ineligible for council tax or help with rent. |

Keep in mind, that you are still legally liable for household expenses in your old home before you rent a new one.
Moving out and getting separated doesn't let you off the hook. |
