yes you can as long as you dont have enough money to cover the rent you are entitled go to http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/index.htm for info.
also may i suggest you take that B A S T A R D to court!!!!

First off get a Lawyer .........He cannot sell the house "out from under you"........Check into the Dept of Community Affairs in your Town or County about Housing ...........Check out your County / State Temporary Assistance Program
They will have more answers that you need

GOOD LUCK!!!

Get your self off to a solicitor or the CAB straight away you and your child have rights and the father can't just sell the house. Also go to your local council and apply to go on the housing list.

To answer your question, you need to go to your local council and declare your self as (potentially) homeless. You usually need to see the homelessness officer who will decide if you meet the criteria which includes your links to the area, and whether you have stronger links to somewhere else, and whether you are making yourself deliberately homeless.

If you find accommodation yourself, you need to apply for housing benefit from your local council. You can get a form from the council office or usually, on-line.

Personally, I think you maybe should make an appointment to see a solicitor to examine what if any rights you have to the house/proceeds of sale. It would be an idea to ask around to find a good solicitor who can help you. Also contact your local branch of Shelter for advice.www.england.shelter.org

I'm sure he can't just sell the house and leave you homeless especially as you have a small child. CAB is definately the first place you should contact as their help is free. You would qualify for help towards your rent and council tax and it will be given pro rata your wages. Good luck and don't make any rash decisions. Stay put.

Difficult to say. go to your local CAB and get advise. You may be able to stop the sale of the house. You will get Working tax Crdits/Child tax Credits that may be higher than housing benefit, CAB can fully advise of your entitlement and assist with a housing application

There ius just not enough information given to judge what you may be able to get as stated elsewhere go and see your Local CAB, who can give you advice based on your detailed circumstances

If you live in the UK there's a group called 'Gingerbread' which could give you good advice. Look in the phone book.
Or you could go and ask advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau.
The father of your child has responsibilities for it.

As far as I know any income is taken into account over 16 hours a week, under 16 hours it isn't, as you still basically claim benefits and the under 16 hours is just like work experience. So if you don't earn enough to be required to pay the full rent your earnings will be taken into account and assessed on a sliding scale to work out how much housing and council tax benefit you will get from the Local Authority, you only get housing benefit though if you are a tenant and not an owner occupier, as I'm sure you know. You'll need to look into child tax credit as well. You can try the CAB but in my experience that are quite over-stretched, so it doesn't do you any harm to find out what you can for yourself via the internet etc. If you do then use the CAB later you will be in a better position because you will have got a lot of the information already, and can ask them the bits that you are really stuck on.
Good luck.
