♥ Lilly-Mae ♥ | How Can I Move Out Of My House? |
Im only 20 I cant get a full time job so I have to put up with only working part time to bring in money, i still live with my parents but theres never really been a relationship there recently its got worse then ever and they have become very abusive with me nothing pysical but its affecting me mentally i know that may sound silly but its true, i need to find a way out but i dont earn enough money to rent a flat is there any other way? How would i go about contacting the council for a flat i mean i don't want to sponge ill pay as much as i can but for my sanity i need to get away from this prison im living in. All responses would be appreciated! Thankyou Additional Details So many people keep saying about the fact that I wont get a place with the council mainly because i have a house and dont have a baby... what are they trying to say if i get pregnant ill get a house i know people who do that and its rediculous im too young for a child i need to get myself sorted first! |

A friend of my daughter was in a similar position to you. She hated being at home, especially as she had just returned from University and was used to being away. She just did not get one with her parents at all.
She has rented a room with some of her friends and is only on part time wages. She only has the 'box' room, as that was all that was left (it is a three bed roomed house with four of them living there), but it is cheap as her friends are glad of the extra rent it brings in (one of them has a bedroom in the dining room).
Ask around any of your friends who have flats, they may be able to squeeze you in for nominal rent - to keep your sanity. I think you will be hard pushed to get a flat/house from the council - the waiting list is so very long and they give priority to people with children.
Good luck, hope it all turns out well for you.

put in for a house with the council and wait for the reply. You are well ready to move on. |

At 20 you do not qualify for full LHA (local Housing Allowance - it used to be Housing Benefit). You have no chance of getting a council place (well not for a very long time - and a baby should not be thought of as a quick pass to council housing). You really only have the choice of shared accommodation.

If you put your name on the council housing list then you will not be given anything straight away, the current state of housing lists are years long and like somebody else on here said, those with children are given priority. My best friend has been on her council housing list for 8 - 9 years and is still renting privately because she does not have children.
I agree you do need to move out - but think about renting a room in shared accommodation instead because it will be cheaper for you. Also if you are only working part time then get in touch with working tax credits because you will be eligible to claim them if you are under earning. these are only relatively small payments but when received every week they go very far towards keeping you fed and clothed. |

u can live in a shared house for quite a reasonable price. me and my fella did for a bit. all we paid was £300 a month for everything!!! that was between us like. maybe look for another part time job too... |

Why can't you get a full time job? 20 isn't a baby. The council will be very unlikely to give you a flat as you are housed already and do not have any children. WHy can't you get a house or flat share with some other young people? |

Go to your Housing Benefits Office and explain the situation to them. I think you will need your parents to state that they are making you homeless, but you will get on the list for a place - hopefully with Housing Benefit paid. Good luck. |

Look for a room to rent, that's usually cheaper. |

rent a room via a letting agent, then get down to the council and claim housing benefit, depending on how much you earn, you may get housing benefit towards the rent. i doubt they will give you enough to rent a flat on your own though. |
