How can I get my inheritance early?
I am set to inherit £30k from the sale of my grandmothers house when she dies. Is there anyway that she can release the money now while shes still alive (just my share, not the other £200k) so that I can put a deposit down on a house for my family. She does not want to sell her house.

My goodness. Where are your morals? You want to take away from your grandmother who worked hard for all she has just so you can make a down payment on a home? How about you keep renting until you can afford to buy yourself. I wish granny could see this and cut you out of the will. What in the hell? You are basically asking her to take on a loan so you can have your "inheritance"! That's pretty selfish of you. She owes you nothing. This is one reason why people should only discuss their will with one person (preferably an attorney), just so people like you don't circle like vultures thinking they are owed a free meal.

.
Wow, that is kind of selfish on your part. Wait until the poor woman dies before you take all she has now.

I really don`t think you should be asking this question.....

ogg08
that's none of your business untill she passes away...

Tim
She can give you 30k if she has it laying around. Otherwise you have to wait for her to pass.

nobody puts baby in the corner
short of smothering her with a pillow in her sleep....no

Very happily married.

That money is not yours, you are wishing dead near enough.

Anyway, what is wrong with working for your money to provide for your family?

What makes you think she could get her hands on the money? You are an unbelievably selfish girl.

At a guess you are about 20 - 30 years old and your Gran is probably between 50 and 60.

Assuming that Gran's health is reasonable she will probably live for another 40 years.

If she is a widow she may re-marry; she may take up world cruising to escape the winter (3 month 'round the world cruise costs only £7-14,00 plus spending money).

Easily affordable using equity release and a good place to find a new husband.

What would she think if she reads your question.

What do the other beneficiaries think?

union76@y7mail.com
All in due time my dear. Lets not count our chickens before they hatch. What a greedy world this would be if each of us counted on the monies from our inheritance. I hope she lives another 60 years.

Oswald W
How many in the family would share the inheritance ? She could take out an Equity to do as you want ,but there are problems that might arise. She would probably begin to feel that you are waiting like a hawk to get hold of her property. Yes ,that might not be the case, but that is how she will begin to feel.

Veritas et Aequitas ()
No. She should enjoy her retirement. You should get your own downpayment. She is not obligated to provide any inheritance to anybody, that's a privilege. So get your own loan and when she passes you will get your 30K.

I'm with other people. This sounds really selfish of you. You want to do a good thing by buying your family a home, but you want to do it by using the hard work she has done and the equity she has earned instead of your own hard work.

She shouldn't have to sell her house, or get an equity loan. It just makes it seem like you are waiting for her to kick the bucket. You think you will get 30K, but what about estate taxes and funeral costs. You may not get anywhere near that.

It’s her money and/or property until she passes away so you can’t view it as your money right now.

Your question does come across as selfish, but I’ve been there. I knew I had inheritance headed my way, and there were times when it could have been useful, but I always kept in mind that it wasn’t my money as long as my grandmother was living. And now that she’s gone, I’m sorry that I ever cared about the stupid money. Ok great, I have a nice little cushion in my bank account, but I’ll never have my grandmother back.

BoyRacer
Yes, equity release companies do that. Your Gran might not be that chuffed at the idea though! She may plan on living for a fair while yet........

wow this sounds so selfish i am sorry to say, but if she has that much she probably earnt it and you should do the same for the things you want and not make her give up anything while she alive she should be spending all she can and living well!
she could do that sell her house and rent it back but if you ask me its a big con and eventually she will be loosing money either way, earn the money you need yourself somehow.

Sure she gets a mortgage for that amount, and you pay the interest. It costs you a bit more, but interest only is pretty cheap on 30k.
