you & me & me & you | How can I live on $117 this week? |
as many of us Americans are tight on cash. This week seems to be the tighest for us. I have paid all of our bills so this is what we have for food and gas. Now I know the gas will be $35, leaving us $82, $16 goes on cigarettes for my husband. I know I know, this is not a necessity, but tell that to a person who has been smoking for the past 13 years a pack a day to stop, it's not happening. Good thing is he has switched to the either the cheap pack, or they have at CVS the buy one get one which is $3.84 a pack. So this now leaves $66. I know for groceries I will need to go to more than one supermarket to get the best deals. I can buy meat and veggies at one for $20 which is for the week and at walmart buy the basics for lunch and necessities for $20-$30. Any other ideas on how to make a $1 stretch? literally. Next we are back in shape. It's just this one week that is wow. Any one else been in this same boat? Thanks Additional Details This is the first time we have been in those boat. Normally we have $400 at the end of the week to live off of. We put money in savings but dont want to use it. Also we just paid off everything. So this week is crunch week |

He would rather YOU starve then give up smoking?
What are you doing with a chump like that?!
Anyway, I help some of my renters out.....you can buy breads, milk, peanut butter, and a few other things at those discount bread stores. Breads will include things like tortillas, so this can help you out.
Also, Catholic Charities will give you 3 days worth of food once a month, no need to be Catholic. They sometimes also have bread, eggs and fresh vegetables. Most of the food they have comes from the government. |

same here.. I usually by things when I have the money... like this week after paying the bills I might have 20 bucks to my name and two hungry kids.. So I just buy extra can goods until the next paycheck.. Dollar stores are good as anything to make the dollar stretch but be careful. some prices are actually higher that wally world... |

I have been there over and over! Normally, I will make some spagetti-something pasta-ish that can stretch for a few days. I shop at Save-A-Lot, Pice Right or Aldi's do pick up little things like that here and there. They got great deals under $1.50. I also make a point to buy lunch meat and bread. You can't go wrong with sandwiches! We also have a Italian market not far from me, so I can get good deals on meat and veggies. A weeks worth for under $30. You learn in time. I am now learning that coupons do have great benefits! I was in a supermarket recently. The lady in front of me had a bunch of coupons. I saw here total go from $55 to $27! That taught me right away how they help you save! The little cents and dollars add up!
As for your Hubby's smoking habit-add up the total cost of ciggerettes per year. Then show him a blackened lung and ask him why you's are paying thousands of dollars for blackened lungs-and you guys can barely eat? Even cut down some if he's not going to quit! Not only is it a financial strain, it's a health strain!
Good Luck! |

You have an Aldi's around you? They're uber cheap on the essentials. Just buy some pasta to cook and some sauce, and have it with a loaf of Italian bread and butter for dinner, pretty satisfying meal. Buy some Ramen too for a snack, they're like $2 for a 10 pack at Aldi. |

Well, food like pasta is very cheap and will certainly last you the rest of the week, if you buy a couple boxes, and if you add chicken to it, you can make different meals. Frozen veggies are cheaper than fresh ones. At my store, the store brand is 99 cents a bag and they taste perfectly fine. Pork and beef are always more than Chicken remember so for one week, you can maybe just stick with that. The dollar store, like Dollar Tree actually have a good deal of food and snacks, chips, etc. Buying the store brand instead of the known brand will save you loads. The obvious thing is don't buy anything you don't actually need. Don't go to other stores unless they are supermarkets, so that its less tempting to purchase something you like. |

Shop for a good deal on burger and make a meatloaf, maybe a pot of chili. You can use the leftover meatloaf for sandwiches for lunches. Chili too if you have a thermos. Or bake a turkey this weekend. Use that for several days(lunch too). Cook a pot of cabbage & potatoes for your veggies. How about bean soup? Very healthy, add lots of seasonings. I add lots of italian seasoning and garlic. Great for a cold evening!, so is grilled cheese and tomato soup. You'll find better deals and more nutition by shopping on the outside aisles of a grocery store( real food, not packaged) Good Luck. |

I find that breaking up my monthly bills into smaller weekly payments helps give me a little extra cash from week to week. The utility folks don't seem to mind as long as the total due is there by due date. You have to be disciplined and actually do it but it really works for someone on a tight budget. It also helps to have a separate "bill paying" account so that your bill paying money is kept out of reach for "personal expenses". |

Anymore, you need multiple sources of income, be it, a second or third job, or ebay, or working off the computer in your spare time, like I do |

There are a few budget stores around, there is aldi mentioned already. There is Also Lidl, which is just as cheap as aldi, if not more so.
If you need clothes shopping then you could go to second hand stores, or charity shops. And if you're really ashamed of this (You shouldn't be) take a bag from another shop and put your clothes in that.
Never eat out and if you like to drink the trick is to buy cheap alcohol from a cheap shop and drink that before you go out. Then you're well on your way before you even arrive. Then you can stretch that $10 a long way. You know, get singles instead of doubles. Or by the cheap beer instead of the expensive stuff.
If you drive you could exchange your car for an older model that does more miles. You could also rely on public transport for shorter distances avoided fuel, road tax, and parking charges. |

$64 that does for cigarettes instead of food?
It doesn't matter how long he has been smoking.
I really hope you don't have children b/c I would hate to think that a parent would spend money on cancer sticks before they bought food.
Also, cut your internet service
You can buy a bag of soup beans for about 50 cents. |
