The old fashion way would be to do what my sister in law did she was a single mom and while raising 2 kids she got her degree online and worked a job in addition. She is a social worker doing much better now and both of her kids turned out good. They have jobs and are both attending college. If you take the time to get education your earning capacity will go up significantly. Your kids will see this too and may follow your foot steps.
The other alternative is find a business or high paying job that doesn't require education and just work a lot of hours and get baby sitters.
1300 a month rent is too much you should find a cheaper state to live in. Where I live 1000 a month payment gets you an amazing 2200 sqft home. Often times cheaper housing can be found if you are willing to move less then 60 miles away from where you are now. Remember its your life if you cant afford it move to where you can.
I am a real estate investor and I got tired of paying 100k for rental homes I left my state and drove 500 miles to pay 15k for the same type of rental homes that generated the same rents. In order to get things in life paying a price often is nessesary.
While I hated to commute to get good deals I had to to stay in business. Well I wish you luck and hope this helps put things into perspective.
