How can a landlord who requested you don't smoke in house/apartment tell that you have been smoking?
Is there a way they can tell?
Additional Details
I'm not really referring to cigarette smoke, more like marijuana smoke.

Walk into the room.

Any non smoker can tell the difference. We know if the hotel room is a smoking room or non smoking. I have friends that smoke that cant tell the difference. Everybody that doesnt smoke can tell when the door opens.

*update*

Just wrote and noticed you added something. The hippy lettuce is very easy to check. They can just take a peice of carpet or paint. Its there. Plus you can tell if they are smoking the hippy lettuce when you walk in. Its not hard. You cant get that smell out. You have to repaint and trade all the carpets.

Trust me, if they are a non-smoker, they will know! Especially pot!

You can disagree all you want, you are wrong the FACTS are stacked against your assertion

The smell of smoke clings to everything and nicotine gets on the walls and curtains. There's an especially distinctive odor to weed and anyone who doesn't smoke can tell the two apart as well as tell the difference between old, stale, smoke and fresh cigarette smoke.

Yes, it stinks and leaves a residue on the walls and ceilings.

I can tell by the stench. I can smell marijuana in a house for many hours, but on a person only an hour or two. Non-smokers will smell it long before you will simply because you do not register it. The same goes for dog owners, they have no idea how bad their homes stink.

Smoke easily travels to units above and adjacent -- even below. Also, look at your exterior door thresholds, you'll probably see grim around the door.

I would tend to agree that cigarette smoke does more damage than marijuana smoke. However, it doesn't matter how "clean" someone is. Unless you're repainting, thoroughly washing your carpet, cleaning window coverings, and outlets each month, it's always easy to tell if you are or have previously smoked inside your unit.

To those that don't smoke....you can pick it up in a second.

I used to have a roommate in college, that smoked, and I was a non-smoker....but agreed to take her as a roommate as long as she didn't smoke in the apartment.

She would sometimes and "sneak" to smoke in the house in the morning...and when I came home 8 hours later (b/c she went to classes later than I did), I could smell it when I came home.

id better repaint mine then lol.your not on your own

If it is tobacco, then typically the smell will be a dead giveaway. I don't think that marijuana smoke will have the same effect so you will probably get away with it unless your landlord catches you in the act. (or your neighbors tell on you)
