How can i convince my parents to move to an apartment?
i live in a small one story home, but it is cramped up and very depressing.there are times i dont even want to come home. i have to share my room that is very crowded. id love to have my own room, though. my parents are very low with money, but we want to move to an apartment very close to us. my father has a lot of payments to make and being a respiratory therapist he has to work all day. my mom doesnt work and cant drive so we have to stay in the house all day. i think that if we are going to stay all day at home we should at least have a home that is a little bigger. please tell me how i can convince my parents to move. thank you.

Money talks, bulls*hit walks. It is hard to convince anyone to "move" when the money is not there to accommodate the new "rent" or "mortgage".

You don't say how old you are. So I'm guessing you're a minor. Also you don't say how many rooms are in your ONE story home. I too live in a ONE story house and I have 9 rooms. Four of the nine are bedrooms. So I'm going to guess it is a ONE BEDROOM ONE STORY HOUSE. That leaves 1 kitchen, 1 dinning room and 1 living room plus 1 bathroom, right?

If you father is a Respiratory Therapist, he should be making upwards of $35,000 a year. If he can not manage money and has instead more bills than income, then perhaps he needs help with that issue first before he can get a mortgage for another home. See the link below and that will give you an idea what your Daddy should be earning.

I don't think he qualifies for Section 8 housing but you need to ask the local Housing Authority for a ruling. Maybe he might qualify. Next, banks have many REO properties. They are reclaimed because people stopped making payments. They need and want to unload these properties. Call any bank and see what REO properties they have. Sometimes banks will work things out to get these properties 'off their hands' and on to someone else who can make payments.

Good luck, God Bless you and your family and may you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. You can email me if you want to talk further on this issue.

make money to afford it

Depending upon your age, ask your parents to let you learn how to budget /work on their taxes. If you can show that living in an apartment will cost less than living in this home, then talk to them about it...but they may have tax deductions they get from owning their own home, and they may have equity in it that they need towards retirement planning and they may simple love the place for sentimental reasons...and they probably realize that you won't be living with them for too many more years and then their home will feel bigger.

Meanwhile, buy some paint, its not too expensive, and brighten up your room and redecorate/declutter and it will feel fresher and bigger.

Talk to them about it. Listen to all of the reasons why they don't want to move and write them down. Then, address each of their concerns with reasons why it would be best to move.

Its not the size of it, but how u use it. Also, I would try to find a friend nearby or who's mom does drive and get out a bit. My friends almost always hung out at my pad cause my parents were mellow about food and loud music.HANG IN THERE!!

You can't. That's their decision. They're probably discussing it already. All you can do is ask about it, tell them what you would like, and see what they say.

Be a part of the solution and not the problem. In other words be supportive of your dad, his financial obligations and problems. He is doing the best he can, and I am sure you could do a lot for him by just being as sweet to him as you can be. I am sure if he could he would move his family out of the cramped house. Since your mom does not work, you have no idea how difficult it is to support a family on one income. You could maybe get babysitting jobs or suggest something on this line to your mother that you and she could do to help your dad. Some families do not have a father in the picture to help take care of them. My best to you and your family.

Get a job and help them afford an apartment.

I wish just up and moving is easier said than done. Do they own this house? If so they would have to get a Realtor and sell it first. That takes money. And a lot of apartments cost just as much money if not more each month. This is the argument they are going to tell you...so hopefully by teling you this, it will give you a heads up what to expect that they'll say. Good luck!

I would first state your case. Let them know that you know times are hard and money's tight, yadda yadda yadda. Then I would remind them that many apartment complex's pay the water bill which would save a few dollars. Landscaping is usually providid, and also, any maintenance is fixed by the management company. There are definitely some pros to living in an apartmemt, but at the same time, you have to deal with neighbors and rules of the property and those stated in your lease agreement.
The most youcan do is state your case, let them know that you want the family to benfit from this, not just you!

well, i think buying a place is the best thing. maybe instead of renting an apartment they could buy...or start making mortgage payments toward a condo....which are just like apartments, except you own them and then you're not throwing money away.
trying to convince your parents....hmm.....i think what you should do is make a list of all the pros and all the cons that you can think of relating to condo versus house. then look through it and make notes. then, when you think you have it all there tell them you want to talk to them. then present your case to them.they may or they may not agree. but that's a start.

it isn't your desicion!! it's your parents and THEY can afford the small home you're in, maybe not an apartment.
don't waste useless money on things like decorating either or buying nice clothes. your parents need to get their finances straight and it is NOT your problem.
all you can do is to get a good education and get out of this place!!

Greg
Talk in a low, non-aggressive tone, and let your point become clear, explaining the priorities of moving to an apartment.

Since you are not paying the bills you have no say in this matter. Mind your own business. First, you say you want them to move to an apartment, then you say you should have a bigger home. Huh?

Are you trying to kick your parents out of their house?? Or is it your house and they've moved in with you?
