M1 | How can i find out if my neighbours own or rent their house? |
we don't speak and the fence between the properties has fallen down, I'm trying to find out whose fence it is and who has to pay to put a new one up. If it's rented then is it the landlords responsibilty. As you look at the rear of the property its the fence on the right of my house. If it's my fence it's not a problem but i don't want to pay if it's not mine. |

Normally you own the one on the right. Apart from asking them you are not likely to know if they rent or not. Your local council can supply plans that will show you who owns the fence. They normally cost £3. |

just speak to them. why are you so scared? |

Normaly the left hand side is your fence but if you are unsure look at your deeds and in it will be a plan outlining what you own and it will say on there who owns it failing that ask them and if they do rent it then ask if they rent it privately or through an agent if its private then ask for the landlords number if not then speak to the agents that rent it alternativly you can pay and go on the land registry website and find out who owns it. it only costs £3 |

tax assessor knows who owns all property and the records are public. |

^ You do need to register, but it is free and you find out lots of information.
Or you could you speak to them about the fence?
The same happened to me, and both houses, mine and theirs were rented, we decided we'd get the cheapest quote, and we'd all pay 1/4. ( The 2 landlords, myself and my neighbour. ) |

The fence to the rear and to the left as you look out of your back door are your responsibility so the one to the right would be your neighbours responsibility. |

If you go on the uk land registry site you can search for an address or on a map and find out who owns the property. It costs £2.00 |

County recorders office has legal owners on record. If the name matches your neighbors then they are the owners, if not, they are renting. If all else fails, knock on the door and ask or leave them a letter in the front door or on the garage so they can't miss it. |

If you're in the USA, you can look it up in the county land records office. Often called the recorder of deeds or the office of the county clerk. If you go there, let them know the address of the property, and see if there is a copy of the deed on file. All land records are available for public inspection, so you should be able to determine who owns it with ease. Finding the owner might prove more difficult if it is a rental property. Sometimes in PA, the last page of the deed will have an address for the owner if it is different than that of the house in question.
Good luck |

This left and right business is a myth! You need to check the deeds if you own the property, if you do, I don't understand why you wouldn't know. The fence to the right is mine, as it was in my last property - so i can say definitively - you need to check! |

it's difficult to answer this one . the fence could be owned by either , you have to start at the end of the road and work along. if you have a house with a fence at the other end , then someone is going to be responsible for 2 fences unless one is owned by council. you will have to look this up at council records and you can also find out if your neighbours own or rent. |

Did you have a survey done when you bought your house? If you did get it out and determine if the fence is on your property. |

The tax assessors office will tell you who owns the house. That won't necessarily answer the responsibility of the fence though. What really matters is who's property the fence is on. If the fence is within the boundaries of your property then it is your responsibility. If the fence is within the boundaries of their property then it is theirs. |

normally (most of the time) the fence on the right is the neighbours, the left is your responsibility (this is facing them from your house) |
