How can you rent a home or apt w/ bad or no credit?
I don't have any real credit history. I got a denial letter from a credit card place that said, "Lack of credit history" and "lack of revolving accounts". How can I rent a house or apt with that on my record? I hate credit cards and loans. I am in my 40s and I've always paid cash mostly. Never owned a home before. I always let my husband deal with things but now I want to get a home or apt and I'm afraid to be turned down. Thanks.

You just need to show some proof of income. Explain your lack of credit history is actually a good thing, because there are no bad strikes against you.

start with a capital one credit card to start up your credit history.

have a close relative co-sign with you to build your trust with renters.

You can always rent or buy a house if you have the income. The rule of thumb is you have to make 3 times your monthly payments per month.

You may have to pay a hefty deposit since you have no rental history and no credit history. It will definitely be hard to rent a place, but not impossible. I would suggest you look into renting a condo or something else that is not run by a management company. They may be more willing to let you rent.

the credit that you have to be concerned about is bad credit. your ideal situation would be to find an understanding individual to rent from. a lot of people that live in rental properties have bad credit. generally you will be asked for a deposit. your bank should be able to help you begin a good credit history with a secured credit card. you actually give them money on account and you have a credit limit. as time goes by, they will increase your limit. some major department stores do the same thing. if you don't have bad credit to stop you, you should not have a problem, if you are employed or have a documented source of income. i wish you all the best.

well my grandma own apartments and you pay with cash it dose not matter about your credit as long as you can pay your rent every month your fine you have to tell the landlord if you have a supporting job and how much you make and you have to be sure you can pay it.

if you live in or near ct i could hook you up : )

you have to find a private owner..they rarely do credit checks..if they do, be honest with them and they will work with you..it may cost you a heftier down payment but hey, you have to start somewhere.

i got an apt with no credit. and no co-signer. just go get an apt. or get 1 credit card and buy something with it. then pay it all off full! that will help you build your credit.

try a lease option on a house.

credit is like a hammer, like a skillet, like a stove; it is a tool.
IT is not more and not less. Learn how to use it to your
advantage; I will guide you

Normally there is a credit check done at the apt complex or by the real estate agent, if a house.

First, if you got turned down for credit due to lack of credit stop putting any applications in because multiple requests for credit in a short time period will lower your credit score making you a risk to provide services for.

Second, apply for you apt or house and ask what the deposit is. Normally you will need two month rent. I for a cleaning deposit they hold and one to pay your first month's rent.

If you have a good job history and references at work, provide those phone numbers on your application, and tell your references to prepare them for receiving a call from the apt place or real estate agent.

The last thing you may need is someone to cosign for you on the lease, the lease will be in your name and but if you default both parties will be resposible for the debt.

I hope this helps you out. Remember we are in a recession, and debt ratio calculations are being reviewed. Good luck!!!!

Do you have a regular salary? I would guess that most rental places / landlords would accept evidence of that as evidence of being able to pay.

Alternatively, is there anyone with good credit who can act as a 'guarantor' for you, who is basically promising to pay if you don't?

They will let you, it will just take a large deposit. It is usually larger with bad credit than with no credit. Just save up a bunch for a big deposit and you should be fine. They usually make you pay the deposit and first months rent (sometimes last months too depending on the place). They do this so that even if you dont pay, they'll have their money because of the deposit. They will often give it back to you after a year or so.

ask the landlord

depends on the landlord..I am a landlord and if the tenants don't have credit/bad credit, I ask for check stubs to check if they have enough money to pay rent + enough money to support themself and their kids, usually 3/4 times the rent.

You will need to find someone who can be a co signor. That way they check their credit history but your name is on everything.

The only thing with a co signor is that they have to trust you implicitly. They are esentially saying that if you don't pay the bill that they will. Good luck to you.

Chances are unlikely. No one would trust you since you have no financial history. Youll also need a co signer with good credit, and awsome references. Youll be really lucky if you find one. Its not impossible but hard. try looking for a place that needs a roomate? They might let you until you have some credit. It might help if you deposited more then just first and last month to gain trust. Good luck.

Go get some referrals or have a co-signer to start. Some landlord may take 3 months of rent up front.
