There are a few properties around here that are extreamly old. There are buildings on it that obviously havn't seen human care in years. There is no for sale sign or anything like that. But I am extreamly interested in some of them, how do I find out who owns it and how to contact them? |

Oh Wow, you share my passion!! I had to research this myself as well.
My parents are real estate agents, so i got personal details and truths.
Watch out for 'No tresspassing' signs.
Note the address, take a picture, and go down to county records. These arent classified info sharing, its legal and should be free of charge.
When you find the info you need, contact a bank and or investor who will support you in this.
Make sure you have an inspector who will give you the honest truth as well.
I have found that buying them cheap is not an issue, its the hundereds of thousands of dollars it will take to make them safe and up to code.
Go onto the Historic propertes websites , it has thousands of listings throughout the country, also visit realtys on the web and preservation societies as well.
I am looking to restore a big old victorian mansion, and a old church somewhere out in the country.
The other neat thing about them is, they always have ghost stories, so check into that too.

You can find out who owns them in the county records(county recorders office). Then approach the owner. |

County tax assessor might have a contact; start there.
They will know who has the tax responsibility for the building; the nominal owner of record. |

Its in the city tax records. Get the location and address of the building(s) and find out from the tax collectors office. It should mention the name of the owner , etc .
You may also find luck with a commercial/ residental real estate agent. |

I am guessing your question is "How to buy land that has abandoned buildings on them?".... since you probably don't want to buy an abandoned building and take it home, right?
To help you out anyway....a local realtor can help, of course...depending on whether it is "residential" (for homes/apts?) or "commercial" (stores/shopping centers/storage centers, etc).
However, you can also find the records with your local government agency...Title records will tell you who owns the land...and probably some contact information...it will also tell you if it is "zoned" for residential or commercial use. The County Assessor's office, Records of Title office, or some other similar name should help you out. |

Do a parcel search if you have the address. My state has this information available online, maybe your's does too. Usually parcel searches show the owner's name and address, age of the home, building materials, ect. |
