How do I get rent assistance?
Any ideas of places that will provide rent assistance? For example, vouchers, money, checks, and such. The Housing rent assistance, where they base your rent on 30% of your income takes forever to get into, and I need help now!

talk to someone at city hall they shall guide you to where to go and what to expect.. if not then they're getting paid to do nothing.

also you can ask the management at your residence where you wish to get this assistance.. they should be able to help you also that's their job.

section 8... handicapped assistance... health and human services.. social services... any one of those should be able to guide you.

Section 8 is your best chance but it takes forever unless you are in a shelter. it come thru faster and as for money welfare if you really need it. it took me four years to get my section 8. i went into a shelter with my kids now I own my house. what ever state you live in check with all the agency they have help is out there.

Unfortunatley their is a long waiting list for any and all housing assistance opportunities. I was on a waiting list for two years before I got my apartment in a complex that based your rent off of 30% of your income. Do a search in your area for complexs that support assisted living programs and sign up now. The wait might be long but better to do it now than never. Also look into Section 8: Which varies amoung states. Go to your county social services building where they can direct you where to see further assisatnce. Good luck.

Department of Social Services, or health and human services depending on where you live. If you are truly in need, go to the local office and stand in that long line. Usually there is an emergency team, and or housing assistance section that will assess your situation. They usually have programs to help with cash assistance, vouchers, subsidy, food stamps, emergency heat assistance etc.

Also check your local salvation army, given the right circumstances some have housing vouchers assigned through the housing authority already. (shelter plus or mainstream vouchers)

Check with your county Department of Job and Family Services they may have a program in place to give you immediate assistance. Also as everyone else said section 8 will help but it takes a long time and I am quite sure that if you are posting this than there is an immediate need. I would also check with Catholic Charities, or any community associated agency. Good luck and God Bless you.

It depends where you are and what your situation is but most states have similar assistance programs both from state-funded and federal aid.
Check with your local housing authority but regardless of where you get it from be prepared for a lengthy process and lots of documentation.

Good luck!

Many City or Town Halls have a pot of funds available for people who need assistance for a month of rent or mortgage. There are many programs available in various states, but I only have direct resources here in New Hampshire.

there is a lot of information about all of this @ www.hud.gov.

Section 8 housing is your best bet. If you need money now you may need to get an advance on your credit card or go to a cash advance place, but that’s a slippery slope. Your city government may have a plan in place. Your town must have an action hotline.
