I spent over 20 years building my credit and saving for my home deposit. I was able to finally buy a house at age 34. Then with hard work and sacrifice, I finally paid off my mortgage last year and at age 54.
I never needed a government grant nor did I expect the American Tax Payer to buy my home. Heck, as a Viet Nam Vet, I never even used the G.I. loans.
Oh...While doing this, my wife and I also raised 5 kids and without food stamps. All my kids graduated collage debt free. |

There are loans for first time home buyers that will give you a lesser interest rate. However, since your credit is not good, it is best that you work on building your credit back up. With a poor credit rating, it will be extremely difficult getting a loan. |

Try lease-to-own so that you can build up your credit and then in a 2year time period instead of "purchasing" the house, you can actually "refinance" and take over ownership and title. |

Get a job with Fannie Mae. One of their employee benefits is a homebuying program, where they loan you your down payment (up to $30,000 or something like that); you pay interest-only payments for 5 years and if you keep working for them the whole time and you don't miss any payments, they will erase your debt at the end of the 5 years. So you basically get a free down payment just for going to work.
Apart from that... there's no free money out there. Sorry! All the commercials and websites that make it look like the government will give you a grant to buy a house, well, they're not telling the truth. |

They already give you the money and you did not use it to buy a house. |
