Court house archives is probably the best accurate way to find this out. Anything online will probably charge a fee and may not give accurate results. Check with your local courthouse. |

That information may not be available online. Your best bet is to go down to your local library and ask them. They may have old maps or other info about your address. You may also go to the county assessors office, where they may have property tax information from before your home was built. |

Geez - a lot of rude answers above.
You can go to your local property and deeds office and find out who owned the property probably as far back as they started recording. |

You need to go thorough available local records. Almost all places keep such records. Your property history would include architectural information like date of construction, and physical changes over time; as well as historical facts, which would imply information on who the original owner really was or residents over time.
Your township building or city hall would be a good place to find these.
There are online places like epropertyreports.com or intelius.com, but they'll charge you and you might not get the historical info you're looking for. |

If you live in the UK the land registry will have the documentation for who has owned the building and the land previously, and any buildings on that land previously |

If you are in the USA, your county or township would have a "Supervisor of Property Assessments" who would have all the records for your property. Some counties have websites where you can look any property up using the address or the PIN (Parcel Identification Number). These are public records, so they should be fairly simple to acquire. If your county does not have a website, you should be able to find the phone number for the Supervisor's office in the government section of your local phone book. |

You can get the history of the land from your county courthouse, but I don't know of any websites that give out that info. As far as what building was on it, you may have to check with the courthouse to see which dept. would have that information. I would think it would be the building permit dept. or something like that. I would take your legal description and go to the courthouse and see what you can find out. If they can't help you, a Title Co. can (with the history of the land). |

God Bless Everyone!
