pixiefeet | How do people afford to pay rent when ..... ? |
Hi is there anyone out there that has a full time job where you earn around £1000 amonth, which is like £250 living on your own and can afford to pay rent each week, and thats not taking out money for the car etc and other thing like bills to pay and if so how do you do it off so little. As I know that there can be no help with rent as you will earn too much.
Im just looking to rent a house and there is no way I can afford it, houses are like £400-£500 where I live and the weekly payment is £100 etc and its just not possible when there is other things to pay out. and a mortgage is out of the question |

Rent an apartment or room instead of a house or raise your income. |

you need to find someone to share with - our rentals demand that no more than 40% of your salary is taken by rent, thereby leaving you sufficient to live on. Its hard - I rent too. |

I understand your problem. The only answer is to find someone to share with, to spread the cost. |

Most people having trouble making ends meet usually
a) cut expenses -- look for cheaper places to live, take the bus instead of a car, buy cheaper foods, cook, and eat leftovers instead of eating out, etc
b) find a roommate to share living expenses
c) find another job. Either one better-paying, or a part-time additional job. |

I earn about £1000, have a mortgage and live on my own. I manage ok so far, but it is a struggle and I sacrifice a lot of things e.g. luxuries, but a lot better standing on my 2 feet and having my own space.
I could never have someone else living here, because I would have to take them into consideration on most things around the house.

If it is really important you will make things work. 35-40% of income for rent and utilities. All else must come from the remaining. Get rid of the car and use a bike or subway eat responsibly no frivolous purchases it all depends on your desire to make it happen |

either rent a room in a shared house, or accept that you'll be broke and rent a studio flat
i earn around £1000 a month and pay rent of £550... it isn't easy, but i have to live somewhere. i also have a car, and pay bills and council tax on top of that |

My out goings are;
rent is £385 per month
council tax is 80 per month
water £10 per month
electric 60 per month
car 70 per month
food 50 per month
phone/internet 25 per month
What is there not to afford? I guess you live by your means... We don't struggle, we think we're well off so it's all about what you 'want' rather than 'need' clearly. |

Its hard starting out but it gets better.I started out on my own in a rented room.It wasn't ideal but it was ok until I saved up a deposit to rent a studio flat,it was wonderful to have my own front door, and invite friends around.I took on extra work so I could save the deposit on my first two bedroom flat,by which time i had switched jobs and was earning a bit more.A mate of mine rented the spare room which helps with the expenses. She is moving out soon, and I think I can get by now on my own.Saving again and I plan to buy a small house or another flat in a better area hopefully next year. Also hopeing my boyfriend will propose soon,as they say two can live as cheaply as one!
all the best |

1. look to share with a friend
2. look to share equity with another investor - many folks look for this kind of investment - they get the majority of the appreciation in value, when and if you sell
3. look for rent to buy options - many sellers may agree |
