How do you give a motel a good reputation, when it once had a bad one?
my dad is the manager of a motel that used to have a reputation of being a drug and wh*re house, but sense he's became manager 2 years ago it been cleaned out, but is still known as a drug/wh*re house. how do I help him change that besides advertising which i'm doing?

Advertisements such as Undernew Management....Have a Open House Grand Opening and Maybe Change the Name..Change the outside colors
Offer a discount on a two day stay. Word of mouth is what gave it the reputation .....it is also what can clean it up.

Paint the place and change the name, Otherwise everyone will always assume its the same old whore house

Complete make over, changing the name to a family oriented kind of rest house, drop the word Motel, and you must make sure to change the previous policy & conditions of the former owner
to atract families and good business people.

The phrase "Under new management" works wonders in any industry.

("since" he's been manager, not "sense")

Other than advertising/marketing there really isn't much you can do. Marketing is the best way to build a business up. You have to go about it the right way. It really depends what kind of advertising you are doing and what type of clients you are targeting. You really need to do a lot of internet marketing. I know Uhaul and other businesses work with a lot of hotels and on their websites the hotels can be rated and you can give specials. We live in a web based world now. You may also consider changing the name. That way people don't associate your dads hotel with the previous name/owner.

Good luck!

Visit websites like Yahoo! Travel & TripAdvisor to see you have ratings there. If you do have negative ratings, contact those organizations to see if you can remove them. I use TripAdvisor religiously, and avoid places with lots of negative reviews.

MIND THE GAP
Here is an off the wall idea that worked for someone in California.

They renamed their motel THE OAR HOUSE.

They were almost full all of the time. It seemed people wanted to tell others they stayed all night in the Oar House.

Very inventive.

Remodel it and change the name. People sometimes associate places by their name. If you change the name, and change the outside appearance, people will know it has changed. Also, advertise specials to celebrate the new begining.

Good Luck!

Perfectly flawed.
Let everyone know that there is new management. Maybe offer a free stay to a lucky winner and they can spread the word!

Attract good customers, not "bad" ones.

sorry...but you don't.

motels in general have bad reps.

it's not necessarily the place that makes its rep...it's the location. people probably know the location as a wh*rehouse....etc.
