self-employed | How do you stop marketing calls? |
I've been harassed constantly by realtors trying to solicit me since taking my house off the market and putting back on with another realtor. My number is on the DNC list, but your only recourse through them is to report it on their website which seems to do nothing. When I ask if they are soliciting, they make excuses like, I'm taking a survey or I'm just trying to get an inventory of what's out there. Not only is it against the DNC list, but they are breaking their code of ethics by poaching another realtors client. How do I stop these annoying and even harassing calls (one called 12 times with a Blocked ID). I can't ignore my phone because it could actually be someone wanting to look at my house. Additional Details Hello Melis. Did you read my questions? I AM on the DNC list. |

When answering the phone and it is an agent or realtor, let them know that you will contact their Broker for their call, that you have their number through Caller ID and will report them to the Board of Realtors. Let them know that their E & O insurance does not cover them from any court filing that they may incur due to their call.
This should stop them in their tracks as they do not want to have anything in their files at the Board of Realtors or for the State that you live in. All these actions are looked into by the Board and they don't take them lightly anymore.
Also be aware that the DNC list expires in 2008. |

just hang up on them right away, you have to answer your call in case it is a buyer, don't see a way out of it |

We have had several of these types of calls recently also and are on the DNC list. I find them annoying but have found that just saying, thank you for calling, please take this number off your call list, has worked. In this kind of housing market I personally would not risk losing a real lead. Neither would I choose to be confrontational as that often just leaves me with angst long after the call has ended. |

I was going to say get on the DNC list but you took care of that.
My next suggestion is to write down the numbers EACH and EVERY time these people call you, and for the blocked numbers, write the word blocked.
Since we ALL have now the Freedom of Information Act, contact the telephone company and tell them that you have been receiving harrassing phone calls and you would like a detailed list of the numbers calling you.
My next suggestion would be to contact a lawyer friend or post a question on a lawyers site asking if you have rights for legal action against these companies on the grounds of harrassment and illegal solicitation (all it takes it once for you to tell them you are NOT interested).
Those are my first three steps I would take. After all this is the country of sue or BE sued, why not jump on the band wagon. If enough people start sueing the crap out these big name companies, Washington will start to listen. |

It's the reason I am failing in this business. If you can't talk with people how are they going to know if you are a good Realtor or not. I agree phones calls are a pain, and I have my phone listed on the DNC list. It's the law, if your number is on the DNC list, I can not call you! So I won't and what happens is I send out alot of mail only to have it come back because the person moved or whatever! If I had called I would have known they moved or they could have told me. Simple.
So while I sympathize with your plight, but I'm starving because I have standards, because I do not want to be sued!
I'm sorry your experiencing this but as you know you could file a complaint with the Broker of the Realtor calling, especially if they have called you numerous times. That is just plain harassment! Or call the FTC: The National Do Not Call Registry is managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency. *57 traces the call EVEN BLOCKED numbers.
Once you get them 3 times you can call your telephone company and they will take care of the situation.
Works like a dream.

ok i used to work as a telomarketer so here is what you do
if it is a fundraising call you cant be put on the do not call list it just wont happen if they are trying to sell you something simply say "put me on your do not call list and send me a copy of do not call policey" so that you have it in writing on paper that you told them not to call you
they will say i will be happy to put you on our do not call list be be advised this may take up to 30 days in the unlikely event you recieve another call from us within that time be tell the represanitive and they will make sure this is being done but you have to listen to them say that so incase they have to get your name phone number and address or they will keep calling |

If you are indeed in the DNC list there are two things you can do.
One as to the realtors; most states real estate licensing laws state that if a licensee violates any law they are subject to revocation of their license so you might want to check your state's laws on that.
Real Estate Commissions Contact information all states: http://www.actwebservices.com/state-agencies.htm
As to the DNC you might want to report the violation

Get caller ID and if you don't know the number don't answer. Unbelievable that you have to have the government handle something that's common sense. |

Do you have any children in the house? When I know it's a telemarketer I just give the phone to my daughter so she can sing the theme song to Barney. Usually works. Maybe you can prerecord it and play it when they call. |
