How easy is it to lie about your situation when trying to get a decent mortgage?
fir the house you want. With my income which isn't massive but not pathetic, i'd be able to buy a mobile home as house prices are a joke here. Single floor apartment can cost 130+ K. What a rip off. And i don't live in London.

Don't risk lying - morgage fraud is a crime, and one that you can get a custodial sentence for.

What about a self-assessed morgage, or one where you part-rent, part-buy? Or hook up with a friend and buy together - but get the paperwork sorted out beforehand so that there aren't problems if you fall out?

My sympathies, anyway - you are right, the property market is ridiculous. I partly blame all those greedy buy-to-let people.

pretty impossible because they need to get clarification from your boss at work, and they also check your bank statement and your payslip.

Lying on purpose or innocently in your application is a federal law violation (I think it's called fraud) punishable by a fine and prison term.
Try buying real estate by researching here instead:

not easy, if you are going to lie ask your broker for whats called a self cert mortgage , this will alows you to make up the figures yourself, but alot of main street brokers are stopping doing these because they know it's a way to abuse the system.

Tippy's Mom
How easy is it? Depends....do you lie alot? Seriously, anyone can lie about anything, trouble is, lies ALWAYS, read my lips, ALWAYS out. As someone who has done real estate and mortgage work for years, I will tell you this, if you get caught it will cost you dearly. And once a lender finds you have lied and decline you, another one will be leary to lend to you. As one mortgage broker put it to me, when we see declines its a red flag someone messed up and do not touch this guy unless you want to get burned! So should you lie to get what you want? What do you think? Why don't you just go get a "second" job you can declare the money on and make up whatever difference you may be experiencing. Makes lenders get a warm fuzzy that you will take care of your debts and do whatcha gotta do to pay them back! Good luck!

Al Zymer
It is not a good idea to try, even if you can get away with it. When interest rates get higher, as they certainly will at some time in the future, your repayments will increase, possibly to the point where you can't meet your commitment to repay.

There are different programs available for buyers now, it all depends on your credit score. There's a program where the lender only verifies your employment, without verifying income. You must be employed in the same line of work for at least 2 years with no gap between employments. This program is called Stated wage earner, or SISA (stated income, stated assets) To qualify for this program you must have at least 620 middle fico score. Let me know if I can help with any more questions!!

can't lie about anything they need, it is all a matter of record, your bank, your credit report, what you owe, how much you're worth,,it's all on record and can be researched by the mortgage company
