How long do I need to be at my job before applying for a home loan?
Hi,
I just moved to this area about 6 months ago and am thinking about buying a house. This would be my first home. Do home loans require a certain length of time on the job?
Thanks!

For a conventional loan there is a 2 year requirement, this does not mean you cannot get a home loan however. There are other options depending on your actual length of employment and how long you have been doing what you do. (Hope that makes sense) Your credit score and other factors will play a role so the entire picture is what is important. Speak with a broker to discuss your options and read this First Time Buyers Guide to get more familiar wit the process. http://wefixrates.com/First_Time_Buyers_Guide.htm

Length of employment is certainly a factor, but it doesn't mean you won't get approved. As long as your employment is solid you should stop into your bank and see what they kind of loan they can approve you for.

Depends on the lending institution. Some may require 2 years, others 5. Also if you work for a company that they know won't be moving out of town or going out of business, there may not be any amount of time needed on the job.

The banks will want to see 2 years of work history. If you changed jobs six months ago it should be ok if your in the same type of work.
