Every state has different laws BUT most of the time they can not evict you without a court order. If they change the locks, call the police and the landlord will have to let you back into the apartment. If you are paying rent and your lease is up, they do have to give you 30 days written notice to leave. However, if you don't pay the rent, they have to take you to court to get the money you owe plus to have you evicted. Look up the number in the yellow pages or call your local courthouse to get the phone number of the fair housing authority in your area. |

It depends on what the laws are where you live. I think you can file for an extension i'd assume you'd do this at the courthouse but im not positive. I'd get the stuff out before then though if you dont want to risk loosing anything. |

It depends. Some places if you do something to violate a lease or property rules they can evict you when they want but it should be stated in the lease. They cannot pick a random time. |

No they cant its illegal. If you come home to find your place is locked and you cant get in contact your local authorities. the landlord has to take all the appropriate steps to evict you and your boyfriend. they start with a 3 day pay or quit then after that if you havent left they contact an attorney and go through the entire eviction process it takes about 6-8 weeks from start to finish if you decide not to fight it. |

Depending on the state. Ca. you have 3 days. If you got 5 days you're lucky. Good news is after you are evicted you have 3 weeks to contact the landlord and make arrangements to come move out your belongings. You should be in touch with the landlord personally. This should be plenty of time if you were planning to move in 2 weeks anyway.

A complete answer to your question is impossible without knowing exactly where you live, as these laws vary from place to place.
Short answer, if you have an eviction notice (in writing), and it says lockout in 5 days, you better take it seriously. That means you need to get your belongings out right away. You might talk to the landlord about it, but in an eviction proceeding, s/he is very likely to do things strictly according to law, in order to not create legal problems for him/her self. By "strictly," I mean they probably won't cut you any slack.
Find a place to put your stuff. At the very least, remove your most valuable and important items. In 5 days, you may not have access to the apartment. You had better count on this being the situation. Again, without knowing where you live, I can't comment on the specific rules. If you have a housing advocate or rental authority in your area, you should contact them immediately. |

They can't "lock you out" without a judge's order. Indeed you have five days to move or they take you to court and the judge will authorize you to be locked out.
Tell your landlord you will be out in two weeks and ask how much you owe him.
Find better boyfriends in the future and don't live with them if they are no good. |

Yes they can. I was in the same situation years ago. What you can do is talk to the landlord and explain the situation. They may let you in just to get your things. Although if he owes rent, sometimes they can take whatever is left and sell it for what it is owed... Hope this helps. |
