Anywhere up to 6 years!!It could be even longer!I've been on the council list for about 6months, haven't heard anything back!

One of my friends has been on there for 8 years and has just got a house!!It really can take a very long time, depends on your circumstances! If your homeless, could be between 1-8 weeks, but if you have a home, or are living with your parents etc it could take years!!

Round here it does anyway, the council take the p*ss, and they don't really bother too much unless your homeles! Then when they finally do offer you a place, it'll be a sh*thole and you won't wanna take it anyway!!

But who knows....the council where you are could be really good and you could have a place within 2 months! But I wouldn't hold ya breath!!

Good luck tho mate, hope they find something for ya!

Ask the people who have been on council lists up to 10 years or more...Depends a lot on points and priorities.

It very much depends on the number of asylum seekers that come over...............probably several years I would say.

Any amount of time,it depends on housing availability, urgency of the individual cases, length of the list in front of you and so forth.Notice,i did not mention immigrants.

can take years!! more points if you have doctors note if your sick or if your under 18 they have to house you! you can also get more points if you get a letter of who your stayin with (if you are) stating that you can only stay there for a certain amount of weeks/months then your homeless! also if you state you are sleeping on peoples floors etc... the more points you've got the quicker it takes!! where i stay it only really seems to be people coming out of jail and pregnant teenagers that get housed.. it's ridiculous!!

Completely depends on where you live, how high up the list you are and how many houses the council has. I would recommend phoning them at least once a week. The more you remind them you exist the more likely they are to do something about it. My sister in law waited till they came to her but they never did she finally got fed up after about a year and rang them and they were surprised that she hadn't been moved yet (3 kids in a 2 bed house not a good idea with a 10 year old girl and 5 year old boy) and it was arranged very quickly. My friend who rang them every week, pulled every string she could and visited the offices as often as she could found a house very quickly though she was expecting to be homeless within a month or two and had two young children so as you can see it depends on circumstances!

Hope you get something soon

It can take years, but it could be weeks.

It all depends on how may 'points' you've been awarded and what requirements you have. You'll have to ask the council/housing association for more information.

it depends on how many asylum seekers are waiting cause they will go before you! they always do!

It depends in which borough you are live and how needy you are. It may takes ages. Look for share to buy: it is not free but at least it is faster.

it depends if you are in the greatest of need on the housing register, what area you have asked to be housed in,and if any properties become available.

you stand more chance if you require one or 2 bed flats or bungalows ,as most ppl have families and require houses.

you can ask what postion you are in on the list.

i had to wait 2 years for my house, and only got offerd it because nobody else it had been offered to would accept it.
if i hadnt,i would still be waiting!

My daughter has been on the list for 12 years with the council, she got one from Housing association after 5 years and is now very over crowded and has to wait about 6 years, meanwhile she is still on council list from 12 years ago - SouthLanarkshireCouncil - Scotland

magic man
it all depends on your circumstances how many points the council award you if you already have a roof over your head even if it's crowded don't expect any thing to happen soon even if your being harrassed were you live they won't budge they will tell you to look at private rent they are so helpful these day's NOT
