How long does it take to buy a house?
I live in the UK and am a first time buyer. If I buy a house which is vacant (no chain) then what's the quickest time that I could be in by? i.e. how long could all the paperwork take if I'm on top of it every day?

(Got the deposit and mortgage sorted already).

How long's a peice of string- it depends on sellers and agents and how good your solicitor is. It should take less than three months if everything runs smooth but there are potential snags such as the lender not wanting to put up the mortgage on this property because it has faults- you may have to wait for repairs etc. Until you go for it there's no real way of telling! Pick a good solicitor to handle it and a reputable agent- hope it goes smooth but be prepared for hold ups.

from 6 to 12 weeks

If you really really push and it's a vacant house then you can do it within 2-3 weeks (I've done it). You might find yourself collecting and dropping paperwork between both partys solicitors.

probably about 30 days

I told the people I was buying the house from that I wanted it sorted in 4 weeks, and it was done in that time. it's the surveys that take the time.

just tell them you want it to be sorted by a certain date.

The UK... no idea
The US.... about 30 days is the average..... I do them in 20...... and the fastest I've closed is 5 days.

The record is two days , it is down to your solicitor or conveying person they can chase it up faster if they want , offer them a bonus as you will save it from the rent you are paying now,

In the US thirty days is about average for a home.

However, modular homes, mobile homes etc. can be bought in as little as 7 days.

angelpants
it's true it's been done in two days but if you want proper searches and surveys done which is sensible btw - then it's gonna take about 6 weeks probably. keep chasing up your solicitor - they tend to be reactive rather than proactive and they get paid the same no matter how long they take so the only incentive to speed up is if you nag them alot!

I takes about 30 days to approve all of your paperwork and go through escrow prior to you receiving the keys. However it take more than a deposit because there are all kinds of fees you must pay. Plus above all you must have good to great credit.

Smiler uk
The normal mortgage is 25 yrs & as the purchase isnt finished till the last payment is made the answer is about 25yrs
