How many square feet is considered a good sized home in the USA?
A better than average house in the USA will gain a realtors eye if it exceeds how many square feet? At waht level of square footage does a house start taking on a certain level of prestige?

Personally, for the average person anything over 3,000 square feet is considered fairly large.

For the top tier people, a 5,000 or 6,000 square foot house could be considered small.

Depends on what part of the country, what part of town. 1,000 sqft may be average downtown and 4,000 average in the country. There is not "good-sized" in the USA because the USA is made up of many markets and submarkets.

ontopowrld
I would say closer to 3500 square feet is better than average. Prestige that starts over 4500.

Around 2000 is about average. If you want prestige, go 3500 or larger. Over 6000 just makes you look like a pig.

I don't think it's a matter of square footage. I own two homes both with about 1800 square feet. The one house looks small because of the way it's laid out. The second is open with high ceilings and looks much bigger. Consequently when I look at a house, I look at more than just the square footage.

A presitge house depends on your area of the country. If you have a 2000+ sq. ft home in Florida where I live, you have a pretty nice house. In the D.C. area where I came from, 2000 sq. ft homes are a dime a dozen. Prestige there probably starts around 4000+/- sq. feet.

It depends. In NYC a 2000sf co-op is prestigious. In other parts of the country a 1000,2000 or 3000 sf home is average. It really depends.

2000 is normal to good. 3000-3500 is good to NICE, anything more than that is for rich people.

1200 Square feet.

It will depend on the area, many of your best condos and the such will be smaller.

But a good sized home in the US that will start at the prestige level at least 2000 maybe 3000,
