Depends, some landlords won't even check your credit, others will check and unless you have great credit they will not rent to you. The thinking is that if you don't have great credit then you are irresponsible and will not pay rent either.

It depends on the landlord. Most that are reputable and run it like a business, do run a report, and put it in their lease that they can at any time in the future, if they desire, and anytime when the lease becomes in default. I generally add that a report can be run for the length of time that legal preceding are on going and for the duration of time when a judgment is obtained for the amount of arrears as awarded by the court. This means forever, in my case, because I re up the judgments at their expiration for another seven years, and so forth.

In my experience, in SOME places they really care, in other's they just required a bigger deposit.

I don't agree if you have "bad credit" you will have a hard time finding a landlord to let you rent" I have HORRIBLE credit (480) almost all is from medical bills though, I have flawless rental history....work with what you got, and bring a nice deposit! :)

They run your credit to see you ability to pay on time. I think that if you had problems in the past but have a good year or more of making payments on time, your score may be low but you have proved the ability to pay. They are also looking for any evictions that may be on your credit. If you have done a good job at paying your bills on time every time for at least a year, then you should be fine. Also, as long as you don't have any charge-off's or judgments on your credit you should be fine.

It may depend on where you are. I suppose everyone runs a credit check, and it depends on what the failings are, if any. For instance, if someone keeps renting a place and leaving without paying rent, and it's reported to the credit bureaus, I wouldn't think a landlord would rent to that person. If someone's utilities were constantly being turned off for nonpayment, that would be a problem too. Being late on a credit card payment, for instance, shouldn't bother them.

If you have a job that you've been at for a while, if you have whatever they ask for in terms of the first and last month's rent and security deposit, if maybe you were at your old place for a while, it should be okay.

Depends on the landlord. They also ask for rental history.

Basically, if you have good credit and rental history, which they may or may not verify, then the landlord will determine how much of a deposit is required.

If you have poor credit and/or poor/no rental history, then the landlord may skip you or insist on a greater deposit, say first and last months rent.

You may need a co-signer, ie parent, to help out.

A lot of landlords want to know if they can count on you to pay the rent. If you have bad credit that means they can't count on you

i'm from england so this might be different if you're from the us.
i have the worst credit rating in history lol, can't get anything like credit cards or things from a store but i rent a place out.
i used to be an estate agent and we didn't carry out credit checks on people that were renting a place out, so you should be fine.

It can be important, they will probably use this to determine if they think you will pay you the rent each month.

It depends on how bad your credit it. Mine was pretty bad. I was looking for an apartment last year. One building wouldn't even let me apply. Another wanted both a guarantor co-signer (someone who would pay if I couldn't, someone with good credit who could prove good income), proof of my income (only because I had a good income did I get in), and three months security. Without the guarantor it could have been six months to a year security.

It can screw you over. Make sure you have a friend or relative with good credit who can help you co-sign, and have the cash on hand to pay a hefty security.
