How much does it cost to live on your own with a roommate?
i am going to be out of high school pretty soon and i was wonderin how much it took to live on my own with a roommate. i was thinking an apartment around $450 would be good since my roommate will be my gf but im not sure how much the other costs like groceries, utilities, and etc. would be. please help

MEeee
I live with My boyfriend:
Rent: $504
Electric: $30
Gas: $15
Water/Sewer: $15
Groceries: EXPENSIVE depends on what you like to eat and how much your home! I recommend cutting coupons!!!! we spend about $75 every other week. Then go out about twice a week.

Any animals remember vet bills and their supplies.

ALWAYS have emergency money if you are that young your probably going to need it!!

Don't forget car insurance and payments you need to add in everything

So everything together for a month minus our pet necessities and Internet, cable etc. It will be around $800 a month!! ALWAYS aim high! $1200 on a high month!
GOOD LUCK!

It would depend on where you live and what kind of heating you have but for a small apartment figure around 200$ for utilities, electric, cable, internet, phone, maybe more if you have gas. Groceries for two people around $ 300 a month.

about 600.to 900. a month. it depends on where you are looking. Good Luck.

Do you like Ramen Noodles? Because unless you have a good job you will be eating cheap food like this quite a bit.

But don't get too discouraged, living on your own can be great. As for utilities, keep the heat as low as you can stand it until you get a bill or two to know what is typical for your apartment.

Try to put some $$ in a savings account now if possible to keep incase of an unexpected expense such as your car breaking down.

Big Deal Maker
An apartment at $450.00 per month? Where do you live. Where i live an apartment in a nice area is around $890.00 plus per month. Some are in the $1,000.00 per month range.
But lets say you have an apartment that you could rent out at $500.00 per month 50% of that cost is yours. = $250.00 per month. Gas & Electric average would be $50.00 per month. = $25.00 your share.
Phone about $20.00 per month $10.00 your share. Food of course how much you eat and etc. Lets call it $450.00 per month. = your share is $225.00.
Lets see what we have so far. Total cost at this point is $770.00 and your share would be $385.00 and we have not even talked about your car insurance. Gas for the car. Maintenance for the car. Etc. It as you can see will add up real fast. But living with a room mate/ gf could help with each others expences. But my advice would be to stay at home and go to collage until you graduate. Then move in together. But of course i`m just being practical.

I would think that you have water, trash, electric, gas, phone sometimes sewer charges for utilities. Sometimes some are included with rent. Probably 2-400 a month. Then the car insurance, gasoline and repairs. This can vary a lot. Clothes, entertainment and food. Food is a killer, because it goes up in price every week. My wife and I have a net income of $ 675 a week and it is very tight (paycheck to paycheck). She has no health insurance. Work up a budget and allow at least 10% to put back for emergencies. Good Luck.

well i don't know where you are going to find an apartment for $ 450.00 because hear in TX. a 1 bed room apartment runs about $ 800.00 to 900.00 then your light's and water and gas if you use it runs like $150.00 to $200.00 each then you have groceries about $200.00 a week and then you will want a phone and cable TV. and that would be like $100.00 so good luck getting a place for $450.00

Depends wut state u live in...for example if its cali, it will be very expensive.

Your question presumes everyone eats the same, their utility usage is the same, etc. And you know that is not so.

It depends on you, where you live, and so on. Visit a grocery store, call the utility company, shop what you will need. Then you'll know an answer that is reliable.

Until then, I'd say between $500 and $4000 a month.

I was in Florida and only payed 500 per month, and 150 for cable, Internet, and phone. Then about 70 for electric, and 30 for gas. When I got a roommate we split it. You do the math, but note, it didn't last long. I had to move because of our great economy.
Best of luck to you.

It really depends on where you live. The cost of living is different from state to state or city to city. I live in west Texas, so I'll use that as an example.

For one month:

apartment rent: $450
water bill: $30
electricity: $90
cable bill: $45
car insurance: $200
cell phone bill: $50
gas: $80 (if you drive a small car)
groceries: $350
other: (going out to eat etc.) $150

So this adds up to $1,445. If you split the utilities and rent it's about $1,300. Of course if you don't pay your own car insurance etc, you can do the math.

Queenie knows it all.
It's very expensive. Everything that can possibly go wrong, will go wrong and it'll cost a great deal more than you expect.

It depends on how nice the are, my sister is 18 and lives with her friends in an apartment and pays only $250 a month. $450 is expensive.
