I'm looking to buy a house and just want some info from people about how much it costs to run a house. I know it varies depending on the size of the house. The house i plan to buy will be council tax band B - but what about all the other things like buildings insurance; gas; electric - how much do you out there spend per month running your house? How long is a piece of string?
Your buildings and contents will be about £25-40 a month depending on what cover you need
Energy Bills vary, again depends on what you have say upwards of £60 a month
Then your mortgage payments. How much are you taking out, how are you paying it back? Lets just throw a ball park figure of £500 a month
Then your council tax will be about £150 give or take
Life insuranc is around £20 a month again depending on what cover you want
So look at a figure of £800 - £1000 per month |

Depends - is it by yourself??
Food (cheaper at butchers & green grocers) - £15-£20 / week
Council tax - approx £130-140 / month (for 10 months) less if you live by yourself - you'll qualify for a one/third discount!!
Water - £49 / month (for 8 months)
Electric & Gas - £50 / month altogether
House & Contents Ins - £18 / month
TV licence - £12 / month
errrrmmmmm what else is there????? errrmmmmm....
oh yes...
mortgage - £900 / month.
So bills excluding mortgage - approx - £320-340 / month.

well everyone is different, i spend around £1100 per month on mortgage (which is over £600) then gas, electric, council tax, water rates, building and home insurances, mortgage protection, car insurance etc. I find it best to pay all my bills monthly by direct debit then you know where you stand i even pay my tv license this way too then you dont get any bills dropping through your door. its hard to say what your bills will be because everyone uses different amounts of gas, electric etc, then theres those little luxurys like sky tv etc they all add up. good luck. |

The average for a small house (2 bed semi) would be around £400 - £500 for a single occupier. But there are so many options like phone, TV, sky, etc that it is difficult to be accurate.
PS
You stated that it would be band B, which clearly places it in the UK, so I wonder what possible interest you would have in answers from other counties. |
