im 18 and im 18 weeks pregnant and my house is over crowded and i need to move out before my baby is due. i was going to move into a house with somebody but that fell through. the thing is that house i was going to move in was across the road from my familys house and i wanted to move in there so my family could help me its private landlord and the rent is £425 pcm i know housing benefit wont pay all of that but im wondering how much they would pay, does anybody know how much a single pregnant 18 yr old on incapacity benefit is entitled to?

They will pay a certain amount at first then assess the property... possibly visit it. Then they will raise it to something pretty much what the landlord is asking. It is usually slightly less which is of course ridiculous because then you have to pay out of your incapacity benefit which is not a huge amount to begin with but thats the way it goes.

If you have a nice landlord he may turn a blind eye to this especially if you arrange to have the money paid directly by the council to hm/her. He will not want to trade the secure income for a less secure one with a little extra.

I hope it works out for you and your little one.

All I can say is that housing benefit is "means tested", so each case is taken on individual merit.
As for the comments above me about deserving and undeserving, well I hope you child grows up to be a Dotor, nurse or such like, and when the person above needs healthcare when they get old and frail, they remember that everyone from time to time needs a little help from the State, be it health care, dentists, roads built, welfare, schooling, police, etc etc
Narrow minded bigot!

We Can't tell you Hun. Your best off going down to the council and finding out. Everyone got different lifestyles so no one will be the same. It depends on how much income you have in and how much you apartment is.

try www.entitledto.com or call your local housing office they are very helpful at this kind of thing

Only your local Housing Benefits office could give you this information because every case is different

Curious
With your language and attitude probably quite a bit...because it's usually your type of language and attitude that gets somewhere with councils.

I think it depends whereabouts in the country you live. You are best off phoning a welfare rights helpline, or even the Housing benefit section or local housing office should be able to give you some idea.
good luck with the baby.

you will have to probably bring all your information to your local housing center. bring pay stubs, bank account records, any bills u have, any payments u receive. they can evaluate your situation based upon that and ur new baby and give u a figure of how much they will pay monthly. if that works out then everything should good for you to move across the street. good luck and god bless.

hi, im a single mum of one, although i live in spain now, back in uk i was intitled to full housing benifit because i got income support, child benifit, and child tax credit, which is the most you can get for a single parent, if you dont work at all then you will get £123 a week, i was 26 years old then, although you are 18 so should be the same. go to the jobcentre or phone the benifit people, if you are on full benifit when your baby is born you will be intitled to that £123 a week (if not working) and you will def be intitled to FULL housing benifit, (i lived in essex and my two bedroom flat was £570 a month) which means they will pay all your rent, although bear in mind you have to find the two months deposit yourself, and if you rent with an estate agent that accepts DSS they will charge you an admin fee, which can be anything from 100 pound too 300 pound, just ring around your local estate agents for the best deal, also if your not working you will need a garuntoure to sign with you, i used my mum. good luck, feel free to email me? i have a little 18 month old boy, and it hard being a single parent, and people assum that we are lazy cos we are on benifit!! but no we arnt i was in a relationship for five years and he kicked me out when i was 14 weeks pregnant, i lost a very good job and my home, then had to move 300 miles back to my mums!! but my little one 18 months now and he the best thing to ever happen! feel free to email me for any advice xx good luck with house hunting and also pregnancy!!! xx oh.............. as to that twat above!!! yes you sound like a big too so you name says it all, i have emailed that person cos he made me sooo angry STOP judging people when you no NOTHING ABOUT THEM!! i was on incapacity due to getting a thyroid and heart problem when i was pregnant, then they put me on to income support, so if you cant answer ("pig") the girls question shut up!!! all agree!!!! xx

Because you are in receipt of benefit you should get the full amount of housing benefit but you would need to find the deposit and any advanced rent generally one calender month in advance. Then the house would be accessed by the housing benefit officer for two things, whether the rent is reasonable for the location, they will access how much the rent should be. The other is for the size if you would be adequately or over housed dependent on the number of rooms/bedrooms. Often in the private sector the rents can be a little higher than the council will pay, often by not much. If there is more than two bedrooms you would be over housed when the baby is born so this could drastically reduce the amount of housing benefit. Housing benefit is paid in arrears and is not always accessed quickly , you may have to wait for a council officer to visit you and then make a report from which the council make their decision. This like other benefits can take weeks or months, so be prepared for a wait.
If you don't have the deposit and any extra money to move in etc you could try for a social security loan.
Good luck

I thin that you'll find they will pay all of your rent. You need to speak the benefits office...there is a certain form which your landlord needs to sign...it explains how many bedrooms etc that the house you want to rent has and then the benefit office will send the form to another office and they decide if the rent is fair...and then they pay it.

I had to go through this, and was surprised how helpful the housing benefit people were...they payed all my rent when I was in similar situation ...give them a ring and explain everything to them...

Good luck

housing should pay for all of ur rent. i am not sure but u should be getting about £120 (ish) a week so that will easy cover ur rent and u'll get the bit that goes over ur rent paid out to u.
it could be different because of ur age but even then i think u are still getting about £100 a week. which would still cover most of it.
good luck with the baby. (my son's girlfriend just had a baby being "only" 18 too).

If it was up to me you would be entitled to absolutely nothing. What have you given to the rest of society to deserve anything. You are just a scrounging slag that should have kept her legs shut. Stop whineing and go and earn your living like honest people have to.
