I live in Canada so I'd say $80000-$100000 Cdn to live comfortably. |

It really depends on where you live and the lifestyle you lead. If you're single and have an apartment and whatnot, I'd think 32-35k would enable you to live comfortably and enjoy life a little bit. Of course there are some out there that could be single and need 100k a year to live comfortable. It really just goes back to the place and lifestyle thing. |

That depends on where and how you want to live. |

it really depends on what you consider 'comfortable.' |

How much do you want to spend a year? That is the question. It is different for everyone, it is what lifestyle you wish to live that will determine "comfortable" for you. |

What's your definition of comfortable? |

I live comfortably on between $1,000-$2,000 a year. YES one thousand to two thousand dollars a YEAR. I spend 3-6 months making jewelry in my father's shop and the rest of the year wandering the country as a homeless man.
It all depends on your personal comfort level and what you're willing to give up. |

All these 'slapshot' guesses at how much is needed!
The correct approach is to open a budget document - create a budget either in Microsoft Excel or even on simple paper.
At the top of budget columns you mark each month of the year (or fortnight, or week, depending on how detailed you want to be): I'll try to illustrate
Income
Month Jan Feb Mar etc
Wages 2000 2000 2000 (if you earn wages of $2000)
Misc 100 100 100 (just showing that any income should be accounted for - maybe this would be from selling unwanted household items, or singing in bars)
But you get the idea - account for all income you reasonably expect will occur, on a monthly or weekly basis
Then do the same for all expenses - be realistic - if a power bill is paid monthly, put the expense in monthly. If you don't have a current household - make an estimate based on asking friends what they pay - of course a family with 10 rooms will pay more than a 3 BR cottage for air con etc.
But, tedious as it may seem - this is the only way to estimate annual NET cash position - which is really what you need to know - as your DISPOSABLE income is that which you have AFTER all fiscal obligations are met - that is where the 'play money' is.
Ideally the budget can show, and opening balance (how much cash will be at call at the start of the month - all income and expenses - and after the subtraction mathematics, a resulting closing balance - cash at hand at end of month.
By experimenting with 'what if' amounts of money - you may add income or expense amounts in periods, based on an assumed change in circumstances - you can see quickly how sensitive your position is to dramatic difficulties if a sudden cash emergency came up. If using computer software - this happens even more dramatically as the computer can immediately 'flicker' all the changes right thru the spreadsheet and you can see changes in 'the bottom line' right away.
Using a linked graph is even more illustrative.
It sounds dry and dull - but once you get into it - it's an exciting and empowering way to take charge of fiscal planning.
A thumbnail 'guesstimate' of asome amount of money will never be worth the dream-paper it's 'written' on. |

Well i make about 100k/yr and live comfortable. But I could always use a little extra comfort. I would say 200+ would be nice |

It does depend on the area you live in. Where I live, Missouri, I would have to say at least $100,000, which I/we have not reached. |

It all depends on where you live and how many people you are supporting. For example, my husband and I live comfortably on $90k per year in Southern California, but for some other locations that may be way more than living comfortable or way less, just depends. |

I did a report on how much a family of four needs to just survive and pay bills and it was about 32,000-34,000. That didn't include any kind of entertainment or gifts. |

If you have a 1 story building with a basement and depending on how man electrical appliances you use, i would say about $15000 a year Canadian and $14900 American
If you have a 2 story building with a basement and depending on where you heat that house i would say $17000 a year Canadian and $16700 American
It also depends on where you live, in florida you dont need to heat but you need air conditioning vs. living by hudson bay where you need heating. |

It depends on where you live and how you want to live, and what your expenses are.
One of my girlfriends lives with her husband in Virginia. They have a nice house and they only make $20k a year but they are comfortable b/c their cost of living is so cheap.
My hubby and I made 190K last year, but we live in New York and while we are comfortable, we still can feel broke sometimes b/c our house is so expensive and our debt is so high we spend too much....
So it really depends. |

depends on how you define comfortably, and where you live. Making 100,000 a year in south dakota is nothing like making 100,000 a year in california. Also, one person may be "comfortable" making 30,000 a year, while another in the same town might make 200,000 and still struggle to pay all their bills and think they are giving up a lot of what they want to do. |

depends what type of house you want, renting or owning, then depends if you are married and have children, but if you are single i would say about 30k ++ should be good enough |

depends on what the cost of living is in your city and how materialistic you are. at least 30,000 is feasible for one person to live on in my opinion |

A quick and easy way is to figure out how much your rent costs per month and multiple it by three- that's how much you would want to earn per month at the minimum. |
