How much money is needed for a down payment on buying a $300,000 home?

Jason K
it all depends on your financing setup.

normally, it's best to have 20% ($60,000) so that you don't have to pay an extra premium for Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI, which has nothing to do with homeowner's insurance), but if your credit is good enough you may be able to finance without any down payment.

I would suggest the 20%, but it's really your decision and your situation that will dictate your options. However, there are also closing costs to pay when you close on your new home (expect in the neighborhood of $4,000-5,000; your finance agent can give you much better ballpark numbers)

Thumper
usually 10-20 percent. so, 30-60k.

depends on the type of loan , your income and how much you can afford, 20 % or 60,000 will save you PMI , there are brokers that can line up a loan for as little as 5 % down but buyer beware
the more you put down the more equity you retain, have the home appraised and see what other homes in that area are selling for and good luck !

Depends, are you going through a bank or land contract, if a bank i would say around 30k depending on credit.

This will greatly depend on what kind of mortgage you have. Better to speak to your loan officer about. It also depends on where you live. You may go from 3%-20%.

tata
typically 10 percent
but the more you put as a downpayment
the less your monthly mortage

about 40,000 dollars

I am not too sure about what is being asked these days but I would expect it to be 15 to 20 %. So somewhere around $50K.

Dara S
It all depends on what kind of mortgage you get. If you go FHA- First time home buyers assistance- my amount due was 8% but any other mortgage usually wants a minimum of 10%- so atleast $30,000 for ya
