As a landlord I would want to know as soon as possible. If you had to give the land lord first, last,& security deposit they may owe you money therefore they may need time to come up with the money or have to get it out of a special account. |

If you have a definate date your moving, the more the better especially if you'll need their reference later. |

It's best to let the landlord know as soon as you do. Do it in writing, and keep a copy of the letter with the date you mailed it for your records. |

Check your lease and look up your state laws. It can vary, and some people are in for a surprise when they get stuck with an extra month's rent. I would tell her verbally and send a CERTIFIED letter including all info (date you plan to move, date notified, etc.). Landlord tenant relations can be good, but you need to protect yourself. Some laws make it easy for landlords to get extra cash out of you, just be careful and be aware of any extra charges you may incur. |

Review your lease to see if there are any specifications to the timing and method of which you need to use.
It is my opinion that it is better to give as much notice as you can, in writing, with perhaps a verbal heads up for your landlord.
After you clean, make sure you do a walk through with your landlord to ensure everything is covered and you get your deposit back.
Congratulations on your new place! I always found it so exciting to move to a new location. |

60 days is better. Aside from getting new tenants the landlord will need to come up with your deposit money and may plan to do a little remodeling between tenants (when I do mine anyway) and may need to plan for that. |

If your ready to start letting her show the place give her the 60 days if you want to. 30 days though is all that is required and I guess I would wonder if your notice will make her angry and she'll end up giving you a 30 day notice. That would be okay only if the new place your going is ready for you. |

You can give them more than the needed 30 days if you'd like, if you are on a friendly basis with them, it would be the courteous thing to do, to allow them as much time as possible to find new tenants. I would call them and send them a certified letter that they will have to sign for. |

Let her know as soon as you know. It is best to write a letter, so that you will have documented proof that you left notice. Most places require a letter to be written. Refer to your lease for the proper procedure as far as notices. It should be outlined there. |

You should have a clause in your lease stating how much notice you have to give. It's typically 30-60 days, but here it's 90 [because I'm in a college town]. Ask you landlord. Notice also has to be given in writing. Sometimes they have a form for you to fill out, sometimes not. So you'll want to ask about that. |

Follow your lease. And make all notifications in writing via certified mail so you have proof it was delivered. |

In Indiana you have to give 30 days, some apts here require a 60 day notice and states it in the contract. I always take a hand written letter that I sign and have them sign and make a copy for myself. Apts don't really care about you after you move so cover your *** or they will come after you for something. |

It should be specified on your lease. But if he has been a good landlord, give him as much notice as you can. Send him a note to the effect and follow up with a call. |

If you get along with your landlord a simple call and letter with your rent check 30 days prior would be fine. if you have had problems with them then i would have them sign a letter that states you gave them 30 days notice prior to vacating. |

I just had this problem. I informed our landlord 30 with the last month of rent. He informed us later that he could not returne our 1800 security deposit because of finical problem. Long story short, Inform them as far in advance as you can, and choose to live out majority of deposit, while giving current rent to new landlord.
